9 days in Cairo is 5 days to long,
head south on the nile to Luxor

Re: Where Should I Go?
Dang... Cool options.
I've only been to Cyprus, so can't really comment. Either way, seem like you have some cool options on the table. All of these are only 600$? Besides Egypt I mean? That's pretty cheap. 9 days isn't a huge amount, so you'll have to limit yourself to just a few places within a country.
Id' say that would be at the top of my list. Just don't get caught by jihadists I guess. But Egypt has always been one of those places that offers a lot in terms of history and culture. Now might be a good time as I assume a lot of the big buses filled with retirees must be sitting empty...General Mackevili wrote:Egypt (Sounds like a boring place, but I gotta see them pyramids, and fancy 5-star hotels are about $60 a night right now!)
Never been, but heard tons of good stuff. I'd definitely like to go.General Mackevili wrote:Sri Lanka (Don't know where I should go there, but sounds fun enough.)
Never been nad not sure about the weather. Several friends have been and liked it. I would go for the history, but they also have lot's of islands. Pretty crappy/rocky beaches from what I heard though.General Mackevili wrote:Greece (I'd almost rather wait until I could work out some sailing there, and someone said the weather ain't great right now either.)
It's the only place I've been to. To be honest, it's more of a "packaged deal" place, though they have some cool stuff, like Jeep tours out in the countryside, nice hotels and so forth. But I'd say it's more of a "sit and relax" place. Depends what type of vacation you're after. Food is pretty good and I remember it not being insanely expensive.General Mackevili wrote:Cyprus (Know nothing about the place.)
That would be cool. If you feel the need to escape the "Muslimness" of the area you're in, Croatia might be cool. Hot chicks, fairly cheap from what I gather.General Mackevili wrote:Croata (Hmmm....)
A classic I suppose. You rarely hear anything negative about France besides the rudeness of Parisians.General Mackevili wrote:France (That could be fun! I've never been to France before. Hopefully it's not freezing there right now?)
Would definitely be cool in terms of hiking/safaris. You went to Ethiopia right? I heard it's a bit similar. But my friend preferred Etheopia.General Mackevili wrote:Kenya (Again, I know nothing about this place.)
Cool one as well.General Mackevili wrote:Nepal (Could be fun.)

Re: Where Should I Go?
$300/day in France Phuket? I understand that this includes trains and all that, but that seems rather high. I guess you guys weren't staying in hostels right...?
Definitely take out Nepal if you don't want to trek/hike. The whole point on Nepal/Bhutan is trekking. Try to figure out what you want/expect out of this vacation first. Do you feel like relaxing somewhere and just sip on cocktails and lounge around with a book/pad? Do you actually like seeing animals in the wild? Do you appreciated history/old buildings or museums? I'd say start with that and then cross out the ones that don't really correspond.

Yeah, Egypt looks to be about $300 on the flight I want, and everything else was $600 or less, roundtrip.
SkyScanner has that cool app that lets you search for flight to "EVERYWHERE" and just listed the prices to everywhere.
Here's the list, in case I overlooked ante gems for next time:
We are the gateway to Mecca, LoL.

Re: Where Should I Go?
That was in Paris for a 2 star hotel for my daughter and me ( the room was so small that if u put the suitcases on the floor u could only move around the room by walking on the beds)$300/day in France Phuket? I understand that this includes trains and all that, but that seems rather high. I guess you guys weren't staying in hostels right...?
LOL
BUT it was walking distance to everywhere and on a tram stop.
included food, ( lunch/dinner) hotel and an occasional taxi over 5 days
I never ever have stayed in a hostel anywhere but did stay at the YMCA in HK ( one of the best deals in HK) right next to the star ferry in TST

Nah, Australian flag actually.
I've been practicing my accent for this trip.

Re: Where Should I Go?
Good news, bad news.
Well, I guess there's no real "bad" news, just not my original plans...
Seems I waited a little too late to actually book a ticket, and the flights to Egypt almost doubled. Flights there are $600, give or take a bit. I guess everyone started this weekend by trying to book a ticket at the same time. I also think waiting until less than 2 weeks was a bad idea.
Meh, oh well. Thx for all the Egypt info, and I'll no doubt be using it sooner or later.
The good news is that Ethiopia was still about $350, so I booked a ticket back there. Can't go wrong with Ethiopia. It's also about a 2½ hour flight.
So I guess I'll just be chilling out in Africa again next week instead of playing hide-n-seek with ISIS around the Pyramids.

Re: Where Should I Go?
Don't go to Greece now, it's too early to properly enjoy, esp coming from the Magic Kingdom. You'll be COLD! Cyprus would be better this time of year, though still quiet. Expect older, retired northern Europeans there now, no real party atmosphere.
Egypt you know about. Oman is definitely worth a gander, check it out, and cheap, a lot more interesting than Saudi (I've been sworn to). They even have a Socotra-like island much closer to the mainland, forget the name, easy enough to find on the southern coast.
Lebanon? Not sure of the safety there right now, but if it's 'safe', go there!! Beirut kicks a$$!! (And good weather now)
Sri Lanka, for sure. How about Tanzania/Zanzibar or Madagascar/Mozambique?
(I may be moving to the MK myself soon, so keep us posted on your travels!!)
