Visit the rare turtles at Mekong Turtle Center, Sambor, Kratie

Post by Anchor Moy »

This is a plug for the Mekong Turtle Conservation Center in Sambor, near Kratie. Set up by Conservation International, the Mekong Turtle Conservation Center is very much a local project involving the community and they don't have many resources. Tourist visits and donations are a precious source of income.
If you have friends visiting Cambodia, tell them to go see the Kratie dolphins, but don't forget the turtles. Make a day of it, Sambor is very close to Kampi and the dolphins. This part of the Mekong is undeveloped, very picturesque and worth a visit. It won't stay like this for long because this area is close to the projected Sambor dam site.

That's why those soft-shell turtles are such a delicacy. You don't need a hammer to open them. :(
