They certainly have cut an ugly scar out of the natural forest all the way around the southern end of the island, and started bull-dozing a lot of the jungle along Soksan beach too. The destruction in just 12 months between visits in Feb 2015 and Feb 2016 was awful, from an untouched natural paradise to what looked like a nuclear bomb had gone off, was terrible to seelurcio wrote:They're in the process of building a road that will run the whole length of the island so you will be able to get minibuses from Koh Touch, the main pier at the southern end of the island, all the way up to Sok San Village/Beach at the top of Long Set?? Beach on the west coast. Lots of high end development occurring around Sok San.
Boracay in the Phillipines is probably about the same size as Koh Rong, and that island has virtually been completely built over & developed, and crowds of tourists everywhere. I can only hope that Koh Rong doesn't suffer the same fate, but if the Chinese build an airport on the island, who knows how bad it may get

Just checked Google Maps and they now have hi-res of the southern end of Koh Rong so you can zoom in on individual trees and see where the bulldozers have been.
Koh Touch - Koh Rong
And this is the Royal Sands Hotel due to open this year on Sok San Beach
