Who says no deposit ? Lol, I know that border crossing quite well, and I am pretty sure that there was some sort of "deposit" paid at the border on both sides. Even before covid, that border gate was known for demanding extra cash to go through.
After that, the foreigners are probably confined in a hotel at Stung Treng for 24h awaiting the covid test results. I don't have a problem with that, do you ?

What intrigues me is that although the border with Laos is officially closed, we have seen regular info about foreigners arriving or leaving through this border gate. Officially, all land borders between Laos, Cambodia, Thailand and Vietnam are still closed to westerners AFAIK.

Silk Air adds flight to Phnom Penh schedule

Silkair (Singapore) Pte Ltd is increasing its flight frequency between Phnom Penh and Singapore with a third weekly flight on Saturdays, according to Cambodia Airports’ Facebook page.

The other flights offered are on Tuesdays and Sundays, with an estimated Phnom Penh arrival time at 5:35pm and departure to Singapore one hour later.

Cambodia Airports communications and public relations director Khek Norinda told The Post on Thursday that Shanghai, China-based low-cost carrier Spring Airlines Co Ltd is also scheduled to add a second route to Nanjing, the capital of China’s eastern Jiangsu province.

He noted that the airline already operates a route between Phnom Penh and Shanghai.

“SilkAir contributes in feeding traffic from regional and secondary airports [like Cambodia’s] to Singapore’s airport hub and the global network of Singapore Airlines [Ltd], an affiliated company of SilkAir,” Norinda said.

He noted that Korean Air Co Ltd and Asiana Airlines Inc operate four weekly flights between Phnom Penh and Seoul, while Eva Air Corp operates four weekly flights between Phnom Penh and Taipei.

This is the most frequently that airlines currently operate the same route to and from Cambodia, he said, adding that the routes mostly serve connections.

It seems strange that air traffic is increasing when the entry requirements are still extremely strict. The number of flights (if full) would indicate a couple thousand a week. Are there really that many people who a) can get visas and b) would willingly go through the hassle once they arrive? Or is it still mostly repatriated Cambodians? I find that hard to believe too.

As [the state of] Victoria [Australia]recorded its 21st straight day of no new cases, the state’s premier, Daniel Andrews, announced international flights would recommence on 7 December, with an initial cap of accepting 160 people per day in hotel quarantine.

The program was suspended over four months ago at the start of Victoria’s second wave of Covid-19 cases.

Vietnam to limit inbound flights ahead of Lunar New Year

HANOI - Vietnam will limit flights bringing citizens home from now until the end of the Lunar New Year in mid-February, when big gatherings indoors are expected, to reduce coronavirus risks, the country’s prime minister said.

With a new Covid-19 variant spreading around the globe and the upcoming Lunar New Year, the country’s most important holiday, only necessary flights approved by health, foreign, defence, public security and transport ministry are allowed to enter the country, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc said.

Vietnam has suspended all inbound international commercial flights since late March, but the government has been operating repatriation flights to bring home Vietnamese citizens stuck abroad amid the pandemic.

Some special flights carrying foreign experts and investors have been allowed to fly into Vietnam. All people entering the country have to spend 14 days in quarantine.

The country on Tuesday suspended inbound flights from countries with new Covid-19 variants, initially Britain and South Africa.

It was a few months ago when there were less flights arriving, that the number of people arriving was @900 per week.
That and now the surge of land border crossings from the countries own migrant workers it makes you think where are all the quarantine centers and staff running them.
