Word is that 80 % of corona cases are imported. which raises the question, is the aircon on planes up to scratch. A similar trend is happening with cruse ships.

Immigration denies rumours of border closures with Cambodia

published : 19 Mar 2020 at 18:16
SA KAEO: Immigration authorities have moved to quell rumours of impending border checkpoint closures which had prompted Cambodians to cross into Thailand to buy bottled water.

Arthit Yakaew, chief of the Aranyaprathet border checkpoint, on Friday denied that the ongoing Covid-19 outbreak would force the border crossing at Aranyaprathet and Ban Khao Din in Khlong Hat district to close.

He dismissed the rumour as unfounded, saying the checkpoints were operating as usual although health screening had been stepped up.

However, the provincial authorities have proposed to close 15 temporary border passes through natural channels in the province. Previously, these channels were open to allow Cambodians to cross into Thailand to work and return on the same day.

The proposed closures, which are intended to tighten control of the movement of people and improve health surveillance along the border, has been communicated to the Cambodian immigration authorities, according to Pol Col Arthit.

The rumour about the impending shutdown of two border passes had sent many Cambodians into panic buying mode as they scrambled to buy bottled water, which is in short supply in Cambodia, from the Thai side of the border.

It was reported that some Cambodians drove their cars to Aranyaprathet market and hoarded water while others pushed carts across the border to buy supplies in large quantities at the popular Rong Klua market.

The immigration office has also noted that a growing number of Cambodian migrant workers have been leaving Thailand in recent days.

this means NO more Khmers into Thailand for sure

The government will extend the requirement of medical certificates and health insurance from Sunday to cover Image

Travellers to Thailand have to now show authorities a health certificate, issued no more than 72 hours before travelling, confirming that they have been tested and are free from the virus. They must also present an insurance policy showing minimum coverage for coronavirus of not less

ABC TV , Just reported ,,Twelve new cases reported in Western Australia,,, all travel related. A common denominator in this and also on the cruse ships, is the air-conditioning. Tell me I'm wrong .

Vietnam Airlines

Their website said all flights to HCM will cease tomorrow.... but they got a call through this morning and no foreign nationals will be allowed to enter/board flights from today.

My wife had booked a flight at 10am as her boss wanted her back to help deal with the shitstorm and mitigate some of the damage..... we’re looking into a refund now but the company will probably go bust before she gets her money back.

This was the particular article I was thinking about:

Cruise ship AC systems could promote rapid coronavirus spread, prof says

According to a Purdue University air quality expert, cruise ship air conditioning systems are not designed to filter out particles as small as the coronavirus, allowing the disease to rapidly circulate to other cabins.

EXPERT: Qingyan Chen, Purdue’s James G. Dwyer Professor of Mechanical Engineering, has researched the spread of air particles in passenger vehicles and how to track them. His team developed models in the past for showing how the H1N1-A flu and other pathogens travel through aircraft cabins

QUOTE: “It’s standard practice for the air conditioning systems of cruise ships to mix outside air with inside air to save energy. The problem is that these systems can’t filter out particles smaller than 5,000 nanometers. If the coronavirus is about the same size as SARS, which is 120 nanometers in diameter, then the air conditioning system would be carrying the virus to every cabin.

Cruise ships could minimize this problem by just using outside air and not recirculating it.”

Maybe we should also be careful when hanging out in large shopping centres . I 'm sure they would tell us they have airconditioning systems that are perfectly safe just like in cruse ships.

Anyone remember the early days of discovering what caused legionnaires disease.
