Siem Reap airport transfer to downtown
I arrive too late for the last shuttle bus (departing 8pm?). Shared taxi (taxi4you) seems to be booked out. Only private transfers available at 25$ + 3$ highway? How much would a grab (or similar services) rate be (destination old market area). Any other way to get downtown for a reasonable amount?

Re: Siem Reap airport transfer to downtown
PASSapp official price is 1300 riel/km plus 4000 startprice, Makes it for the 46 kms around 16 dollar for an oldschool-tuktuk.
If you book with them a classic car (camry-style) its 2200x46 plus 5000 or 27 dollar !!!
Pretty sure if a late flight arrives, some passapp-camry drivers are around, useally outside the gates (in Phnom Penh its always) !!!

Re: Siem Reap airport transfer to downtown
If you can walk 500m, I guess you can set your location on Grab as just outside the toll gate, thus saving the new $3 toll fee as well as whatever parking fee they charge.
Re: Siem Reap airport transfer to downtown
It will be interesting to see how many tourists will go broke at the new airport, without even getting into town first.
At the very least, they should provide free WiFi for GoFundMe access.

Re: Siem Reap airport transfer to downtown
Firstly asking about a cheap(er) way to get into town from a new airport seems like a legit question to me and does not make anybody a beggar.
We all have different budgets and not everybody likes to throw the dollars at the first persons who screem "taxi, where you go?". The 28$ airport transfer is the result of some unfair game played at SAI IMHO..
I will probably book the private trip and try to find someone on the same flight or at the aiport to share it with. Lets see if this will cause any problems when I show up with "friends" to share the ride.

Agreed. It wasn't really my intention to take a dig at you specifically, more at the ridiculous state of public transport at SAI and the general level of preparedness of - some - travelers when an unexpected expense pops up.truffledog wrote: ↑Fri Jan 05, 2024 3:55 pmFirstly asking about a cheap(er) way to get into town from a new airport seems like a legit question to me and does not make anybody a beggar.

Re: Siem Reap airport transfer to downtown
At the end I booked a private taxi through an agent and paid 28$ (all inc) for airport - door of my hotel. I found a couple to share the ride and it cost me 10$ at the end. Pickup was easy (cardboard with name), fairly new and very clean SUV, very polite and safely driving. Took little more than an hour with low traffic as it was past 10pm when we left the airport. PM me if you want the number of the driver.
In alternative there is a shuttle bus service. Shuttle buses depart to town at 10:30am, 11:30am, 12:30pm, 15:00pm, 16:30pm, 18:00pm, 20:00pm and cost 8$. Air Asia from BKK arives after 9 and before you have passed immigration it will be close to 10 or later if the flight arrives late like in our case. It kind of seems they are leaving the last flights to the taxi sharks charging 40+$ (small car, more for a van) for the ride.
I have seen people taking a small Bajaj TukTuk for the trip into town. Sounds like fun but it will take probably 2h+ and is not very safe, especially at night.
BTW:
there is a moneychanger booth just next to the immigration counter in case you have no US$ Cash to pay for the Visa fees. You can buy SIM cards just after passing customs.

$8 for 45km. 17.7c per KM
Just for some perspective, a bus from Ekkami Bus Terminal in Bangkok to the ferry station for Koh Samat is a distance of 200km and the fare is 200THB, or $5.70. 2.8c per KM
Ekkami to Pattaya is 141km and costs 134THB or $3.83 or 2.7c per KM
Don't think the bus service is doing anyone any favours.
Another concerning thing is it took over an hour at 10pm. How long does this journey take at 8am when lots of people are going into town?

Re: Siem Reap airport transfer to downtown
I suppose the answer is in the volumes of pax traffic. In Thailand they can expect to fill those buses. Although when I took a bus from Trat to Ekamei last September, most of the buses had been cancelled and the one that I was on was nearly empty.I guess that was super low season for Thailand, maybe busier now. But Cambodoa transfers are always more expensive. Look at the $15 ride from PNH-Riverside and compare that ($ per km) to a licensed taxi from BKK-Silom. BTW, the real test for the new airport will come after KNY. The current flights are concentrated on a limited number of destinations and they presumably serve a lot of tourist pax who visit SR as an add-on. Once low season hits in Thailand etc, things could get challenging.Doc67 wrote: ↑Fri Jan 12, 2024 1:42 pmIn alternative there is a shuttle bus service. I don't think the journey time from the new airport to SR would ever get much over one hour. NR6 can get busy and unpleasnt but I don't think it gets blocked. Locals may say otherwise?

Are you saying people get charged $15.00 for a taxi from Phnom Penh airport to the riverside area in Phnom Penh?
That's a $5 ride on Pass app.
