Airports in Vietnam are a mess. I flew through HCMC, Ha Noi, and Da Nang in the last month and all of them were crowded like heck.
Is there a Chinese invasion there also?
Absolutely. Though for the first time Korean arrivals exceeded Chinese arrivals. Heard from a friend that check-in in HCMC took 4 hours yesterday. But then one should not travel before, during or after Tet (lunar new year).
