Train is horrible. Took 6+ hours last time, and the main highway is basically finished, and then he'd have to go to Kep on top of it. Main road to Keep is fine, just take the 3 and then cut off by Angkor Borei.

By the time I packed the bike on the train and the train left I'd be a hour down the road to Kep, not that I'm in a hurry it's getting up 5:30-6 to catch the train, prefer the morning boom boom then breakfast before heading off

Well, we’ve just arrived. Just short of 4 hours, with 2 stops en-route for kids who can’t control primary body functions- food going in and out of the same orifice, etc.

Sedate drive by private taxi. Highlander. In truth, it was just over 3 hours driven, unhurried. The road is in a pretty good state, now. A little bit dusty in places, with a couple of contra-flow sections, but smooth.
Slow getting to the south of PP, and then the last bit once leaving road 31 for 33, then a fairly steady pace. A better start time avoiding PP traffic might easily see another 20 minutes saved without having to pick up the pace.
A world of difference from the last time that I drove the route myself.

I cannot reccomend train for this journey.

It's shit and takes nearer to seven hours. The distance is 155km!!!

I'll report back sometime next week on my trip and road conditions but can't see it being less than 6 hours from last experience, it takes me two days to go PP to Siem reap and that's pushing it

What is road 2 conditions down to road 31?

I have not been down Road 2 for a long time but I know it was under reconstruction and a mess from what others told me

The train is fantastic, I don't care how long the journey takes. You are comfortable with good views and safety.

Yes correct, took 8 hours last time I used it and the train even backed in reverse on some stretches!

Did exactly this route 20a pretty bad but not so dusty and I think better on a bike than car you can avoid most pot holes, an hour after leaving PP riverside was having first beer stop on road 3 past all the bad road bits, I think better to be sitting there than waiting for the train to leave, sorry Doc
31 is good all the way and less traffic
