Road conditions - Cambodia

Do you have a Cambodian trip report you want to share? Post it here, and feel free to link to your blog if it's a travel blog for Cambodia, South East Asia, or anywhere really. You can ask and answer questions about travel advice in Cambodia or just share your pictures and videos with us. Most people who live in or visit Cambodia have also checked out nearby countries like Vietnam, Thailand, Laos, Myanmar, Malaysia, Indonesia and the Philippines, and you can get to most of these countries by traveling overland, so put any travel plans, reviews or questions here. Discussions about dirt bike trails in here as well.

how are the roads? hard packed dirt or?
How long a drive?

Any and ALL info greatly accepted :-)
We did this trip on a bike a couple of months ago, I didn't see any cars but the roads for the most part are fine...As Bitte_Kein_Lexus says the roads are wide and smooth hard packed dirt for most of the way, with a couple of areas that are quite dusty, but nothing to worry about. I took a picture of the one of the trickier areas which I can email you if you wish...
We took just under 5 hours from Banlung to Sen Monorom, didn't take any ferries

No ferries? So the bridges at koh niehk and lumphat are complete then? I'm surprised it took that long if the road was nice.

We somehow managed to stray from the main road towards Sen Monorom and had to double back, probably lost about 30 mins. But yeah, the bridges are complete

Would be great if you could post a couple of pictures of the road on here. It would be very helpful to others going that way to have some current pictures of the road.

You could post them on imgur.com or any other picture hosting website and post the links here.. It would be much appreciated :thumb:

I haven't been up there since they started working on that road so I'm really curious to see what it looks like now.

Unfortunately I only took one picture of the road, which is in one of the trickier places. The other one is of the bike at the same place...Apart from here and maybe one other place the road was fine.

I hope the links works...

I rode to Phnom Chisor this past Wednesday and thought I'd give an update on the road conditions there (HWY#2). Despite having ridden Highway #2 maybe only two months ago, it's clearly deteriorated. A few parts are completely uprooted and work seems to be in progress (though it doesn't seem like they'll be making it wider). So past Takhmau, there's a small roundabout (the one that split HWY#2 and St.217). From there onwards (heading south) it's not very good. Worse than it was for sure. Dirt and all. Seems they're going to scrape it back into semi-decent shape though.

Also, if you're at that same roundabout but heading north (where you can choose to get to Phnom Penh via Takhmau to the east or just go straight north), the road heading north (st.217) is crap. Big and wide but all the trucks use it so it's got huge potholes all over and cars/trucks are constantly swerving at the last minute in front of you. That road then becomes a weird “dual cement” road. Got stuck behind a Cintri truck at some point and couldn't pass it. Eventually I could when the dirt was level with the road (the road is a good 20cm high, and the road is only wide enough for a car each way, so impossible to pass anyone, especially if you have a passenger).

Just a heads up for anyone riding in that direction. Of course it's all passable, but don't bring your road bike there!

Drove from Kampot to Kep this afternoon, and road 33 is in excellent condition, same goes for road 31 from Kep to National Road 3. Also, the road from Veal Rinh to Kampot is in ok condition, but a few potholes .
