Sounds awesome. But ask Austman and not AM. (That's me and I haven't got a clue.)

Motorbike, it would be very impressive to do it in that time by cycling, it's pretty hard going in places, definitely doable on a push bike but it would be a long day I think ! Not many places to stay on the way and some fairly long sections with nothing!

Yeah a bit rough in places! I took a turn off the main highway onto rd 14b which is OK just outside Pursat it meets the newish rd 55 the road is really good in places and it was good to let my bike go a bit ! Soon as you turn left off rd 55 on the road to Koh Kong its dirt. which feels worse as you just got off a fairly new road (55) its pretty much dirt road of varying levels of quality through small villages around lakes and mildly dense forest not much civilisation along the way! A few places along the way that are definitely only 4wd and preferably in the dry! There is about a dozen small creeks "i didn't count them" all had bridges of various levels of construction and sizes, none complete, some small lengths of straight road looked almost ready to seal. At one point I reached; it really turned to shit! i could hear the bulldozers pushing a new road through around the hills ahead. But I had to turn off onto a real goat track massive ruts and only 4wd which is all but vertical (in places) for a few kilometres i was lucky it was dry. I fucken loved it. my passenger had to get off and walk in a few parts! The scenery was great but i found I want to keep up my speed as I wanted to do the whole trip in daylight not knowing what to expect ahead. The only time i stopped was at a village near a small/medium lake got some extra fuel; supplied in 500ml plastic water bottles and some cold water and off again! there was some ECO Lodge advertised on signs but I didn't stop to see it! when you reach the last of the 3 dams/hydro projects its a single lane road (made of cement) with overtaking areas of 2 lanes then its 34 klms to koh kong winding up and down through the mountains! I enjoyed the trip. Austman ps google maps worked well all the way

55 and the main road that goes through Osom/Veal Veng changes conditions all the time. The rainy season destroys them pretty much every year, with muddy ruts in the rains and dry hard tracks when it's dry. Wouldn't be fun on a road bike, but fine on most vehicles. I've seen trucks get stuck though.

thanks for info glad I didn't give it a try last year when I was up that way, was tempted to cross to Thailand at the end of road 55 and get to Koh Kong that way, maybe I'll do it sometime soon but not on my own .
