Recommend a place to stay in Kampot

Do you have a Cambodian trip report you want to share? Post it here, and feel free to link to your blog if it's a travel blog for Cambodia, South East Asia, or anywhere really. You can ask and answer questions about travel advice in Cambodia or just share your pictures and videos with us. Most people who live in or visit Cambodia have also checked out nearby countries like Vietnam, Thailand, Laos, Myanmar, Malaysia, Indonesia and the Philippines, and you can get to most of these countries by traveling overland, so put any travel plans, reviews or questions here. Discussions about dirt bike trails in here as well.

Recommend a place to stay in Kampot

Post by walkjivefly »

Anyone have recommendations for places to stay in Kampot? Riverside or town centre, close to wherever the buses from Phnom Penh stop and upto $60 for 2 people 2 nights.

Good places to eat while you're at it?

Cheers.

Mea Culpa. 012504769. Ben is the owner. Still haven't found any place better in 8 years. Close enough to "downtown" but far enough from hippy backpackers. Rusty Keyhole ribs are just a few minutes stroll away along the river. Also try the pizza at the place a few shops east of RK, on the same street. Best I've had in Asia! Sorry, I forgot the name, but it's owned by a young Italian couple.
I am sooooo very sorry if you can't understand or appreciate my sarcastic facetiousness.

Rikki Tikki Tavi, run by Denise and Chris (I think Chris)

Lovely upstairs deck with a view of the river, great food and drinks

Hour Kheang , opposite Rusty Keyhole, $15 a night , air con, satellite tv. Nice and quiet and in a great spot, and the owners/managers are good people.

Or if you want a fan only room it's $8 a night. They can organise moto rental, bus tickets etc too, and tell you where to go night time if you are looking for someone to chat to. I've stayed there two times and it is what you pay for, but the owners are very helpful.

You need to be prepared for roosters in the early morning and thoughtless people chatting in the corridors later on. I've only been in an easterly facing room, so the roosters have been a bit of a pisser.

Unrelated, I wonder if you can get a rooster pissy (as we term it in Oz) and how funny that would be.

Thanks for all the suggestions. Stayed at Mea Culpa for a couple of nights and can definitely recommend it. Lovely staff, nice room, good pizza, good beef lok lak. 10 minutes walk to the giant durian roundabout. Karma for chkwoot when I work out how to do it.
