It useds to happen alot a few years back in Thailand, Vietnam and Laos. And in Thailand a year ago, http://jclao.com/entire-car-train-passe ... -thailand/
The worst part is the useless police who don't seem to want to protect repeat tourism!. The bus companies, in fact the whole transport system in Cambodia needs a complete rethink!

I have never used this company, so i have no idea about this company, but there is one thing i want to share. One the way to Siem Reap the bus that i used and Virak Buntham stopped next to each other. Then, there was some called me and i wasn't sure if i know that person. He was a driver assistant at Virak Buntham bus company. I talked to him awhile and then tried to ran away from him as he is my fellow villagers and everyone knew that he is a completely methhead and thief. I was surprised that he was hired to work in this company.

i thought that was traveling 101... regardless of what country you are in... always keep your valuables on your person!!!!
ive taken more sleeper busses than i care to remember id say a good 80% of them were the VB busses, i always keep my valuables/electronics in my 30ltr bag and bring it on the coach with me, ill either use it as a pillow or a footrest and left in a position where noone not even the person next to me can pinch anything, i do oftenly check every time the bus stops to check my bags not taken off (read too many horror storys on TA lol) so im pretty paranoid on the busses, id rather be too careful than bagless

Events like these are one of the reasons that SE Asia has such a bad name amongst travellers. I have been travelling all my life in over 15 LDC countries, and I've never seen anything anywhere as bad or as numerous as in SEA as far as organised theft by company employees or hotel owners and their staff. Or the countless apologists for the local thieves by expats.
The very first warning sign a seasoned traveller gets when going through any country in SEA is that almost none of the budget hotel rooms have clasp locks so you can use your own padlock on them. Unsurprising that there are also many many many reports of stuff being stolen from hotel rooms by hotel staff.
I would say that Vietnam was the worst place out of the four countries of Thailand Laos Vietnam and Cambodia. I would also say that when it happens to you, don't bother posting about it on expat fora. Somewhere like Trip Adviser is much better as you find people more supportive, and it will have slightly more effect on stopping it. The lack of moral values in people that have money enough to run these businesses in SEA is astounding. The police? That shits normal everywhere in the world they can get away with it. Theft, rape or even a murder, they just want a kickback. That's if it wasn't them themselves robbing, raping and murdering..
See crook!!!

This is the worst bus company I've ever come across in my life. One of the drivers attempted to rape a woman on one of the sleepers a couple of years ago, remember? The bus staff are all obnoxious dirtbags, I've met them, and had bad experiences with them too - nothing as bad as these folk, but nothing surprises me with this dreadful company, no grain of salt needed here imo.

Long before comfy internet warnings against all sorts of tourists aimed scams, one was quickly reminded to care for his stuff especially when ignoring fellow Indian train passengers advices to sleep through the night strapped to one's gear including flip flop shoes.

Putting aside serious crimes victims, my sympathy is thin for naive tourists who instead of feeling ashamed to carelessly being relieved of valuables they would probably have taken much greater care of at home, joig the gofundme Darwin travel victims whines :suprise:

I am amazed at the number of people who live in Cambodia and have no idea what is going on. Because it hasnt happened to them it cant be true.

I am amazed by the do-gooders who know what is going on, but are not honest about it.

If people know what is going on, and future travelers are warned, they will take precautions, and less crime will occur.

If you dont know, talk to other travelers, listen to their experiences, and find out what is going on.

Most crimes are not reported, as people need to pay the police, then the police usually do nothing about it.

In Australia there are television programs about what happens in Asia, both good and bad experiences. Some or all of these are sponsored by the Australian government. The Australian government is concerned about the number of Australians who are victims of crime, seriously injured and murdered in Asia.

If the truth was told just about the number of foreigners murdered in Asia, tourism would decrease. Many 'suicides' are murders. I would like statistics on how many people had their bank accounts emptied out when they committed suicide.

Tell the truth so future travelers are warned.
