Very good news!
Will this be implemented at land borders also?
Is it likely that other visa's, ie business, retirement etc also be put on this system, at a later stage?

Re: NEW: E-Gate System Installed for Cambodian E-Visas
To clarify the original post, the new automated E-gate system will enable Cambodia holders of the recent micro-chipped passport to enter the country without passing at the immigration desk. The new system is available at both Phnom Penh and Siem Reap airports.
At present, it is not available at Sihanoukville airport or at land borders, or for Cambodians carrying old passports without micro-chips, or overseas Khmers traveling on a non-Cambodian passport.
The E-gate system does not process foreign passports.

Re: NEW: E-Gate System Installed for Cambodian E-Visas
Many countries have similar systems for their own citizens at airports and borders. Simply scanning the chip in your passport and smiling at the camera is supposed to make it quicker and easier for nationals of said country to enter, but in my experience, it doesn't. You'd be surprised the amount of people who, despite all of the clearly written instructions, with pictures which clearly illustrate what to do and how to do it, will spend a good few minutes trying to work it out for themselves before requiring the attention of an official.
In my country at least, you're better off bypassing it altogether and just going straight to the desk, smiling at the official while he spends two or three seconds verifying that you're the same person in the passport, and going on your way.
