Mondolkiri
Mondolkiri
Hello guys. If you have been visiting Mondolkiri province before, please help share with me your travel experience down there. It is my first time to visit this province. We have 3 nights and 4 days. So what can we do, where we should go with this amount of time? I have read a few trip advisor, but it seemed i didn't get a lot of information yet.
Note, i want to see the elephant, and if possible i want to do the elephant trekking. If you have done these kindda activities, please give me some suggestions. Thanks! All your contributions are highly appreciated.

Interesting! I've been there one time but my experience wasn't nice. I wish I could go there again someday

Re: Mondolkiri
I've been to Sen Monorom once, but only for a few days and I didn't see any elephants; I actually felt kind of sick and didn't do much of anything... I thought the nature was really beautiful though.

Re: Mondolkiri
Of course, you'll need to go see Bousra. That doesn't take too long. As for elephants, the place below often comes highly recommended. I've never been a big fan of using animals for tourism, but if it helps the locals instead of lowland Khmers, it's good. Ask at your guesthouse about other places, but try to be responsible. Don't help a place that uses the animals for a "show". If it looks like the elephants are mistreated or work too hard (carrying people around all day, for example), then leave. Try to support Krung/Phnong/chunchieht piet tik instead of Khmers. I know it might be hard since you're Khmer, but in the past few years, tons of lowland Khmers have come to Mondulkiri and try to act as middlemen, or sometimes try to push out the local minorities to make money. The locals know the area and elephants best. Try to support them out by giving them your business.

There are two elephant sanctuaries in Mondulkiri where you can spend time with elephants without riding them. All other tours in Sen Monorom rent the elephants daily and do not take full time care of them.
One is the Elephant Valley Project which is owned and staff by westerners.
The other, the Mondulkiri Project, was started by a khmer man, Mr Tree, last year. He employs Bunong staff to lead their jungle tours. Their two day tour gives you a day with elephants at their protected forest, sleeping overnight in their Jungle Lodge and then a day of jungle trekking to visit some waterfalls with a local Bunong guide.

Re: Mondolkiri
Thank for your suggestion. Actually i didn't realise that elephant trekking could be really bad and can harm to the elephant, until you point it out. I think i will not do the elephant trekking, but i will go and see them. I am sure that i will support those tribes.Bitte_Kein_Lexus wrote:Of course, you'll need to go see Bousra.
