Mondolkiri
Re: Mondolkiri
Thanks. We actually have check Mondulkiri project yesterday and we all like it. i think we will go for it.Gumby wrote:There are two elephant sanctuaries in Mondulkiri where you can spend time with elephants without riding them. All other tours in Sen Monorom rent the elephants daily and do not take full time care of them.
One is the Elephant Valley Project which is owned and staff by westerners.
The other, the Mondulkiri Project, was started by a khmer man, Mr Tree, last year. He employs Bunong staff to lead their jungle tours. Their two day tour gives you a day with elephants at their protected forest, sleeping overnight in their Jungle Lodge and then a day of jungle trekking to visit some waterfalls with a local Bunong guide.

Re: Mondolkiri
Hi Samouth,
We just got back from 2 nights at Tree Lodge - run by Mr and Mrs Tree of the Mondolkiri Project. We didn't go to see the elephants, but we spoke with people who came back from swimming with elephants and trekking in the jungle and they said it was one of their most amazing experiences. Everyone seemed to have a good time.
Mr Tree's number is 0977234177.
Also, the countryside up near Sen Monorom is quite beautiful and they have a lot of trees and forest.
Have a great weekend.

Thanks Anchor Moy. If i remember correctly. My friend booked one of the family bungalow at Tree Lodge. i just saved the number. We will definitely go to swim with the elephants and trek in the jungle. I have never trekked in the jungle before, i think many Cambodians also haven't. Hopefully, this will be an amazing trip for me.Anchor Moy wrote:Hi Samouth,

Re: Mondolkiri
Pretty sure it's on foot - there's no elephant-riding since the idea is to spend time with the elephants sharing their space in a natural environment and not to dominate or domesticate them. As far as I understand, these elephants have been rescued - either because their "owners" cannot afford to keep them, (they eat alot), or because they have been exploited.StroppyChops wrote:^ Yes, trip report please - also, can you find out if the two-day trek is on foot or on an elephant, and what the cost is please?
Have a chat with Mr Tree, Samouth. He will explain better than me.
+1 for a trip report.

Re: Mondolkiri
Interesting little video from Evan Hadfield - son of the astronaut - on the differences between the two elephant sanctuaries in Mondulkiri. I haven't been to either, but both, from this video and my own reading about the two places, seem to have their own problematic approaches to 'conservation' and 'voluntourism'.
