Avoid if possible, they've denied to compensate my tickets cancelled due to COVID repeatedly.

Xiamen Airport offers 144 hour visa-free entry on arrival for transients, so why not just do that? Spending all your time on Zhongshan Road eating is a good way to pass the hours. Most nations that have strong passports qualify (even the US) so it's definitely something I'd consider were I you, and beats spending all your time at the airport.

i had a flight with them last month AMS-XIA-PNH, but unfortunatly exactly the day i had to changes planes there, some tyfoon was over Xiamen, and 19h before departure i get a mail from them they wouldnt fly. I can understand that (i checked the airports departures the day after and almost all arrivals where canceled.). I said, no problem book me next week monday on the 9/11 flight, after days of no news, they said on 9/8, sorrry, the flight is full, no more tickets. As i bought the ticjets well before and dirt cheap (378 euros) i suppose they just wanted me to f*** off and sell an expensive ticket. But i would get a full-refund they said. Curious when it comes, if it comes. For the layover: i had a similar situation in Shanghai a couple of years ago, and instead of 14h layover, i opted for a 28h layover, at same price, booked a hotel in shanghai town and went in town for a day and night. No stress and happy to see Shanghais Bund !! Was also on a 72/144h visa free transit there, just a stamp in your passport. Strangely, in Xiamen they were speaking about a 24h visafree transit (and not 72h or 144h), now idea why in fact. At the end booked new ticket with Lufthansa BRU-MUC-BKK-PNH and of course not at 378 euros !! ??

My already booked flight to Japan via Xiamen on Xiamen Air from PNH is in 7 days.

I bit on the 220 USD RT airfare x 2 pax but now I am concerned in a big way.

1. All reviews are awful.
2. Must check out and collect baggage and immigrate into China v. a regular transfer/transit
3. Reviews say foreiners subjected to hours long interogations multiple times
4. Fingerprints...photos...full on
5. I have no d3sire to enter China....just transit
6. Do I now need a visa? A Covid test or other BS.
7. Will they detsin me and my son? Separate us?
8. Am I willingly volunteering to be detained and disappeared.

Such is the state of fear in our world today.

Fuck...just want to go to Japan on the cheap.

Should I stay or should I go now?

Visa probably not, but it depends on your passport. They have visa exemptions for travellers in transfer.

Not if you prepare your stuff in advance. Traveling with a minor without both parents present requires some planning. Basically you need written permission from the mother.

at JBingham....Spot on reality check...though still intimidated by the random enforcement potential. Even having all docs in order doesn't mitigate all risk.

Help me on this thought...maybe 6 posts about Xiamen Air and Airport this year on trip advisor etc......all horror stories of pain....against xxx 1000s of passengers who have not posted....

OP, not to sound negative but it seems like you are stressing yourself out for nothing.

If you are that paranoid, because it seems like you are attempting to find a reason(s) not to take this particular flight, then don’t go. Find another airline and go if at all possible, if not then don’t.

Cheap tickets come at a price, and the price is usually not ideal situations.

But don’t stress yourself out over it.
