Kratie - what to see and do.
Someone blogging about a visit to Kratie in March 2017:
Located on the River Mekong in northeastern Cambodia is the small, sleepy town of Kratie (pronounced Kra-cheh). Like Kampong Cham this is another riverside town that seldom makes it onto Cambodia travel itineraries. People more often pass through it, or overnight on their way to other destinations, such as between Phnom Penh and Laos or vice-versa.
Unlike many Cambodian towns, the wars did not have quite such an impact on Kratie, so the roads and French Architecture in the town are in reasonable condition. The town is also much quieter than the main cities in Cambodia, Phnom Penh and Siem. Ther are far fewer vehicles of all kinds and it’s much cleaner.

Nice report, Kratie is quite a pretty place.I thought the bamboo bridge was most impressive and there is a large air strip. I think it was the original civil airport but became a US base but I'm not sure.

The best thing I like about Kratie ,,,, is leaving.
Cambodia,,,, Don't fall in love with her.
Like the spoilt child she is, she will not be happy till she destroys herself from within and breaks your heart.

Is the airstrip in use as intended? I have never seen any general aviation here in SHV. Or on the tarmac of PPIA for that matter.willyhilly wrote: ↑Sat May 27, 2017 5:51 pm Nice report, Kratie is quite a pretty place.I thought the bamboo bridge was most impressive and there is a large air strip.
