Do you have a Cambodian trip report you want to share? Post it here, and feel free to link to your blog if it's a travel blog for Cambodia, South East Asia, or anywhere really. You can ask and answer questions about travel advice in Cambodia or just share your pictures and videos with us. Most people who live in or visit Cambodia have also checked out nearby countries like Vietnam, Thailand, Laos, Myanmar, Malaysia, Indonesia and the Philippines, and you can get to most of these countries by traveling overland, so put any travel plans, reviews or questions here. Discussions about dirt bike trails in here as well.

Richard, excuse the hi-jack, but that sentence raises an interesting point.

Most would spell it fridge...but why? There is no 'd' in refrigerator. Mmm...interesting, from a teacher's point of view.
Jesus loves you...Mexico is great, right? ;)

I also notice alot of Americans call a freezer an ice box.

Kep is nice and quiet normally, but ridiculously busy on weekends/holidays, even more so since they trucked in all that sand to make a decent sandy beach. Would be a nice spot to live if you had a decent plot of land and could live off-grid.

I'm normally a huge fan of graffiti art, but not on all the old uninhabited villas down there.

I read a few days ago, that there is a grocery store close to the pier ? Perhaps you missed it ?, or perhaps it has closed recently ?

The local people must buy food & beer locally somewhere I would have thought ?

I'm looking forward to spending a couple of days there in Feb 2016 anyway

At least they have an ATM down there now, before you had to go into town on the other side of the national park, that was in March 2014.
It was 1 of the deciding factors of moving on, & hearing a dog yelping from a plastic bag tied to the side of a bicycle! No shortage of fresh meat along the promenade. Staring out to sea at night was very relaxing, the lights to the west of the crab market where mesmerizing otherwise the place is pretty boring.
Wonder when all the casinos will be built.

there is a local market & small local shops u can buy drinks/beer, etc
you can get Pizza ( Gonk) and a few western dishes at many of the restaurants near the crab market

I would think most of the guests are in Bungalows/gh's so they have their restaurant for eating and socializing,
but visiting and living, as we all know, are not the same

the local market in Kampot is huge and their is a western grocery there, so its only 30 minutes away if u need

Not having all those things is what attracts me, we only ate out one meal in 5 days there

Now as for a house for rent, on my last visit (about 2 weeks ago) I came across one in Damnak Changuer. To get there :- turn right at the White Horse on Hw 33 till you get to Damnak Changuer, turn right there taking the back road to Kep, Hw 33A and the house is not far around the corner on the right hand side. Looks new and nice peaceful area.

cool, thanks, guess i missed it last week or........
I went to rabbit island so was on that pier an did not see the grocery store the site mentions, there were some empty shops and the smallest aquarium ( i walked thru it in 2 minutes and would have been seriously pissed off if i had had to pay) i have ever seen :-)

is this UR website?

seems i missed alot, makes it more appealing to me.
I can ONLY see it growing as more and more expats discover Kep and pray it does not lose its small town appeal :beer3:

PS did go to that horse riding as my gf's nephew really wanted to do it ( he is 5) BUT $35/hour is fucking crazy prices

Back in 2003 I fell in love with Kep, but it is now 2015 and my most recent visit last week, made me realise my love affair with the place is over. Everything is way overpriced and is only supported by the hordes Khmers from PP driving Lexus and landcrusers bearing military and government plates on the weekends. Yes, the place has nice scenery, [ for KOWY, ] but there are thousands of places throughout the world with better scenery. [ dare I mention NZ ]
Accommodation in Kep is ratshit. Here is a shot of my guesthouse toilet for $15 a night, and the American , with wife and 2 kids that were on the same minibus said they were unhappy with their hotel they stayed in.

Kampot is now the place I have fallen in love with. Haven't been there for 4 years, and the place has good and cheap food and accommodation, but it is still hard to beat the prices of Snooky

BBQ marlin steak , potato or chips, coleslaw and garlic bread, peanuts and beer $3.50

Cambodia,,,, Don't fall in love with her.
Like the spoilt child she is, she will not be happy till she destroys herself from within and breaks your heart.
