Giving up backpacking

Do you have a Cambodian trip report you want to share? Post it here, and feel free to link to your blog if it's a travel blog for Cambodia, South East Asia, or anywhere really. You can ask and answer questions about travel advice in Cambodia or just share your pictures and videos with us. Most people who live in or visit Cambodia have also checked out nearby countries like Vietnam, Thailand, Laos, Myanmar, Malaysia, Indonesia and the Philippines, and you can get to most of these countries by traveling overland, so put any travel plans, reviews or questions here. Discussions about dirt bike trails in here as well.

Giving up backpacking

Post by Duncan »

Image Before the days of being called a '' flashpacker'' , I was a '' backpacker '', and before that, in the good old days we were all called '' hitch-hikers ''. and we carried everything we owned on our backs. For some people things have not changed.
But for me, those days are all over, and when I now travel I am more likely to be travelling with nothing more than a visa card and a pair of spare underpants in my pocket. So I thought it was about time to throw out my backpack that has been with me for the last 20 years and hand it over to a new generation of Cambodians future backpackers. This future backpacker that I gave it to looked a bit lost and confused but hopefully one day she will be off to explore the world.
Cambodia,,,, Don't fall in love with her.
Like the spoilt child she is, she will not be happy till she destroys herself from within and breaks your heart.

. . . in the good old days we were all called '' hitch-hikers '', and we had flowers in our hair, smoked copious amounts of weed, made peace signs, and got arrested for demonstrating in front of embassies.

i was never called a hitch hiker in the 60's when i used to go back an forth from east to west coast, but i did it alot all over the states and Europe
Never carried all i owned either. Never had any flowers in my hair, never gave anyone the peace sign, did get arrested a few times an did smoke ( and sold) tons of weed
Did months/years of "back packing" thru Europe, north Africa an all the way to Bangkok
