Since the Tampuon tribe consider Yeak Laom to be a a living spirit — they're animists, for the most part — you can't stay right on the lake, at least when i was last there in early 2018, but you can stay very close. There's some homestays. There's another lake I prefer to stay on the shores of, just because it has nicer hotels. The Ratanakiri Boutique Hotel is where I've normally stayed. But many people are there for the rustic setting, I just like having modern amenities to come back to after a day out. I did a hike through Virachey, I'd definitely recommend that. Many people would argue it's the last non-empty forest in mainland Asia, meaning it still has bears and leopards and other large predators that have been emptied out of most tropical rainforests in SE Asia. Maybe <10 tigers, so functionally extinct but a few rangers have seen evidence here and there. This is rapidly changing, of course.

The governor of Ratanakiri is promoting nature tourism in his province. It is also possible to admire many examples of deforestation and illegal logging in this area.
Rattanakiri Province Has 14 Tourism Destinations
AKP Phnom Penh, July 13, 2020 --
Rattanakiri, a mountainous northeastern province of Cambodia, is well-known for its stunning natural beauty and ethnic diversity.
Rattanakiri province has in total 14 tourism destinations, including 12 natural sites, 2 cultural natural sites, and 8 nature-based tourism sites under the management of ethnic minority communities.
The update was shared by H.E. Thong Savon, Governor of Rattanakiri province, at a press conference organised here this morning by the Royal Government Spokesperson Unit of the Office of the Council of Ministers.
Among the many tourist attractions are the crystal clear Yeak Laom volcanic lake, fresh waterfalls, dense rainforest with exotic flora and fauna, and so on.
