A Few Days on the Beach

Do you have a Cambodian trip report you want to share? Post it here, and feel free to link to your blog if it's a travel blog for Cambodia, South East Asia, or anywhere really. You can ask and answer questions about travel advice in Cambodia or just share your pictures and videos with us. Most people who live in or visit Cambodia have also checked out nearby countries like Vietnam, Thailand, Laos, Myanmar, Malaysia, Indonesia and the Philippines, and you can get to most of these countries by traveling overland, so put any travel plans, reviews or questions here. Discussions about dirt bike trails in here as well.

Let me know what the food is like!
Did you get to the island, where waiting for a trip report
I am there now. Food at Sara is very nice. Good quality beef, seafood very fresh especially the squid and fish. Big English breakfast is pretty damn high quality, nice bread, sausages, all pretty reasonably priced, especially considering the location. We asked about price of crab, it differs, but they said usually 50,000r/k. The bay is absolutely stunning, just like in the pictures, and it's virtually empty, must be the best time to be here. There seem to be a few more decent eating spots along the beach, although it's sad seeing so many deserted businesses. Will post some photos when I get back to the room, and take some more food piks

You didn't get the deal 3 meals a day, where did you get the boat at Sihanoukville? Crab in Kep market now $8-12 a kilo then another $2 to cook
I'm standing up, so I must be straight.

Oh, shit yeah my wife just reminded me, Sara will charge you $7 to cook the crab... But they will take you out by boat to go and buy it directly from the fishermen, so it sounds kind of nice. So nowhere near the value you'll get at Psar K'dam. But I thought the island prices in general would be higher, tbh, so I have no complaints at all.

The deal has changed now for Sara, it's $400 for 7 nights, and you get $350 credit at their restaurant to spend how you want. Which would last two people 3-4 nights, eating and drinking well, I'd estimate. It seems like a decent deal to me anyway, because you're free to go and eat elsewhere a bit more, and you can choose whatever you want from the menu instead of having their set meals.

Service is good. The bungalow is small but nice, big TV the garden is peaceful. Water pressure is a little low. And one of the guys in one of the cabins drowned, may he RIP, and the police had to come and take his stuff away yesterday, so might not want to tell the missus that..

Jesus that would shake you up a bit being around that bad news haven't seen anything in the news about it, how do you drown in calm waters? Heart attack or drunk.

Maybe stay another week. People here on the island seem to think that there are no more boats going to the mainland because of the covid situation, and there definitely are very few.

And oh, shit yeah, got stuck down there for one night at the pier in S'ville... Aw man, get there early or phone the boat company in advance, you do not wanna hang around S'ville for a night if you can avoid it. It was dodgy as hell and really expensive. $11 for the most horrible pork belly I've ever had in my life, dreadful hotel. It felt like a trap, I thought people were gonna rob me, just a seedy atmosphere in the air. But we got there the next day, despite a close encounter with some drugged up foreigners on the boat, kinda freaky. So yeah, try and avoid as much of that hellhole as you can.

But man, when you get here, it's a different story. The photo below hasn't been post-processed... F'in idyllic, actually.

As I said, if you like Khmer food, this place is probably well worth a visit.

On a budget, you could go to any of the resorts on the Longset beach by the main ferry terminal and get the ferry over for just a few $'s. There will be simple accommodation there for a lot less than I am paying and there is likely much more choice of food outlets in Koh Rong village. Plus the train to SNK is $8pp one way . You can get a bungalow on the beach for $22 a night.

I reckon you could get 2 weeks here for 2 people, all in for:

Bungalow.....................$300
Transport PP to KR return $80
Beer 10 beers x 14.........$150
Food 2 x $10 x14...........$280
Odd and Sods...............$100
Total........................$910

Very nicely made field report of that dead-boring place and i will take it as a reminder to never ever go there. With their prices you could have been easily staying in Saint Tropez which is a rather expensive 5 stars beach town full with first class entertainment in the South of France.

Yes, internet is generally good. Power drops out occasionally, but comes right back. Free kayaks here too. There are two minimarts with decent little selections of snacks, beach stuff, medicine toiletries etc. 2 massage shops, and a hairdresser.

Burger menu here at Sara is good too...

Curious, have you been to that area of Snooky in the past, before it was gentrified in the last 4-5 years ?, or was this your 1st visit

Were there many (any) western foreign tourists around ?
