Re: A Few Days on the Beach
I have took the supply boat few times and it only takes 2-3 hours if the sea is not too rough. But I prefer the speed boats. Faster and safer.armchairlawyer wrote: ↑Sat Jan 09, 2021 7:10 amWhen I went in July, all the companies were using the smallest boats. Same as Doc described I think, they seat about 20. I saw the bigger boats at the SHV pier but never saw one move.jaynewcastle wrote: ↑Sat Jan 09, 2021 12:20 am
I made the crossing over to the islands several times, 2014-2018, and it was nearly always a rough trip, which is why I always chose the biggest boats to go on. It was the yellow boat, the Cambodia Speed Island Ferry (or something like it), until in 2017, TBC introduced the largest boat which I used for the last 2 years I visited, which was the best ride. I've no idea what the situation is like now, with ferry companies, with so few tourists around
The supply boat is the biggest (and cheapest) boat, but takes 5 hours they say. Did you ever go on that?

Re: A Few Days on the Beach
After a tiny speedboat on my 1st visit, I've only got the large quicker boats over to the islands, and even on the yellow boat I used many times, have seen many people throwing up, including myself. I wouldn't want to spend 2-3hrs on a slower boat at all
Soksan beach is made up of the soft white sand that makes walking a lot harder & tiring, by the time I got to Soksan village, I'd decided to get a boat back to Ko Touche, rather than walk back . I remember that wooden boat taking nearly a hour to do the trip, but having a look at that side of the island from the water was very nice. I'd imagine in years to come, that beach will be lined with hotels, much as Saracen bay on Koh Rong Samloem is nowadays .
On my last visit in Jan 2018, I was going to stay in Soksan village for 3 nights, to allow me access to explore & walking parts of the island I hadn't seen before (I don't do lying on a beach sun-bathing at all ), but in the end, its remoteness & the extra cost/hassle of getting there & back, compared to Ko Touche, led me to book a hotel in Ko Touche the whole week, with lots of walking around the southern part of the island

^^ Seriously unimpressed with their lunch and dinner menu. Who goes to a tropical paradise to eat burgers and sandwiches ? Where's the fresh fish and the shrimp and the squid ? Don't they have a chef ? (Maybe that's the problem.)

The air con room for 2 for 3 nights with breakfast on booking.com is only $92>>>( genius benefits-10% discount))

not so great a deal, ( $29/day for lunch/diner )

It's not the full menu.truffledog wrote: ↑Wed Jan 13, 2021 5:48 pmThe menu is disgusting..Anchor Moy wrote: ↑Wed Jan 13, 2021 5:04 pm ^^ Seriously unimpressed with their lunch and dinner menu. But I agree it doesn't look too inspiring. However for $43 a day all in I wouldn't expect truffles.

Better than Sok San and that was considerably more expensive. A burger would have come as welcome relief. Chicken salad baguette? Luxury...John Bingham wrote: ↑Wed Jan 13, 2021 10:58 pmIt's not the full menu.truffledog wrote: ↑Wed Jan 13, 2021 5:48 pmThe menu is disgusting..Anchor Moy wrote: ↑Wed Jan 13, 2021 5:04 pm ^^ Seriously unimpressed with their lunch and dinner menu. Re: A Few Days on the Beach
even the extended version of the menu is not much better,,i also wonder what Spaghetti Napoli is..no such dish in Italy (on italian domains). As the food is included (and prepaid) there wont be much love in the preparation of the dishes either. I hope I am wrong.
@John Bingham there dont need to be truffles to make it acceptable..but with zillions of recipes available on the net its also not very difficult to make a slightly more appealing menu. Heaven (the beach) and hell (the food) comes into my mind. I remember the Phillipines beeing like that..awful food..paradise beaches.
