Post by Jamie_Lambo »

Whats the drive like? or should i just get the bus?
i fancy a road trip, but its all good today but driving back with a hangover on Monday could be regretful...

If it's quiet on the road (but I doubt its going to be tomorrow) it's a very pleasant drive. When busy, be prepared to get stuck behind slow moving vehicles without a chance of overtaking for miles and miles (1 lane only each way).
just noise, white noise

It's an easy ride. Get over to Hwy 41 asap. Great road, virtually no traffic. It joins hwy 3 about 20km from Kampot. The roads across from hwy 3 are terrible.

Alternatively, take hwy 2 past takeo, take a right at 126 and come in via Kampong trach and kep. Stunning scenery once you're past takeo.

41 is the way to go unless you got 5 hours to spare in which case the train is good. leaves 7 am, arrives 12. take yer bike and go exploring. now is not a good time to be on the roads. Lots of drunks celebrating xmas and new years, and even a few Khmer as well. lots more traffic too as people head for kep instead of macauville

Did the trip on the bike over a week back. The worst bits is being forced off the road by the crazy big car drivers on hwy 4. You could go the back way via Stung Hav to avoid most of that. Once you off Hwy4 the road is about 90% ok. Some potholes and lumps of mountainous tarmac to look out for. Kids and cows and U turning locals liable to jump out. Should be there myself tomorrow!

Standard operating procedure for crazy big car drivers
Stand on footpegs, finger on horn, flash lights and drive straight at the driver.
Works every time, unless they don't see you cos thye are texting :-)

Yes! This actually works on tall dirt bikes. Not so much on small 125cc's. The horn is pretty useless, though. If you try doing that when you're close enough for the driver to hear your horn, you won't last long.
