Driving from Sihanoukville to Kampot

I fancy a road trip, was thinking of driving up to PP, but next weekend me and my friends (who live in PP) are going to visit Kampot (ive never been) so was thinking about driving there instead as it would probs be a more leisurely drive rather than the road to PP, anyone made this trip? either driven themselves or taken a bus? my scooters a brand new airblade deluxe with only 100km on the clock

I have done it a few times. It was 7 years ago. It was fun and Kampot is not really far from Sihanoukville where I am from. However, you have to be careful, Cambodians drive crazily and the road from Sihanoukville to Kampot is not really good. There are some holes.

I think they've fixed the road. I haven't done it in a couple years, but then 1/2 was new & the other 1/2 was being worked on. Who knows, it could be falling apart already in places. Look how fast the roads to KK & to SR disintegrated. IIWY, I'd just Google it.

yeah 2 of my khmer friends ended up in an accident coming from kampot, which meant them being late coming back to kampong cham province for the new year and missed out on the first couple of days

i never get accident since i started driving motorbike. However, i now have no confident and brave enough to drive motorbike in the province even in Sihanoukville after i lived here pp for more than 5 years. I prefer taking minivan or bus. If you look in any local news, every day there are so many traffic accidents and most cases ended up death.

Yeah, fine road. I've driven it many times (in fact, I haven't taken #4 to/from Sihanoukville in about 3 years). It's a fine road with little in terms of traffic and nice views.

looks like its a road trip for me then! thanks, is it pretty much one road all the way or is there any junctions i need to watch out for, not looked at the map properly yet, think i remember google saying it will take around 2hours, back in the UK i used to class that as a substancial journey to drive, but here thats just popping down the road lol

No turns. Just turn right along highway#4 from Sihanoukville at Prey Nob, then just follow the road all the way to Kampot (passing by Bokor along the way).

^^^^ Doubt most know where Prey Nob is. About 20 mins past the airport you'll hit the toll booths. 10 mins after that you'll find 4 the road to Kampot on your R.
