A day in PP

Do you have a Cambodian trip report you want to share? Post it here, and feel free to link to your blog if it's a travel blog for Cambodia, South East Asia, or anywhere really. You can ask and answer questions about travel advice in Cambodia or just share your pictures and videos with us. Most people who live in or visit Cambodia have also checked out nearby countries like Vietnam, Thailand, Laos, Myanmar, Malaysia, Indonesia and the Philippines, and you can get to most of these countries by traveling overland, so put any travel plans, reviews or questions here. Discussions about dirt bike trails in here as well.

A day in PP

Post by rozzieoz »

We will have about 10 hours in PP tomorrow, in transit to SR.
Can anyone give us any ideas of somewhere to spend the day, we will have a carry bag each, so don't really wanting to be doing too much travelling around. We are hoping to find a hotel or bar etc where we can hang out for a few hours.
Thank you for any advice :)

Unfortunately most of the city is suffering from Chinese New Year-itis - it's not one of their public holidays, and while it's only a single day on the calendar they're all suffering from week-long malaise brought about by pretty much any other culture's public holidays. On the up side, it's nice and quiet and calm in the city at the moment.

What's your budget?

In your case I'd get a place with a pool. Killing 10 hours with a pool is easy.

What's the timeframe? Not sure if you'll be killing daytime hours or middle of the night.

You might have to think about paying for 2 nights, depending on the hours you'll be in town.

I recommend walking along the riverside and having some sun-downers at any place that catches your eye.

Why would anyone pay for two nights for a 10 hour stay?

The OP should be asking where to store the bags so they can go exploring. I heard that the Red Fox on St. 136 just up from the Riverside on the right hand side of the street does cheap bag storage.

I'd go to the Riverside, store bags at the Red Fox or some riverside area hotel/guesthouse, then visit the palace, the museum, Wat Ounalom, the FCC, Central Market, Aeon Mall, etc.

We discovered a great gourmet restaurant called Digby's the other day, not a bad place to hole up for a while if you're a good food lover, but not cheap. As well as a good menu, you can select gourmet sausages or imported meats from their deli counter and they'll cook and serve it for you.

Well, they haven't clarified their timeframe.

If their 10 hours starts at 7AM and doesn't end until 5PM it's very possible they'll have to pay for 2 nights.

I paid $55 for 9 hours on my last night for my hotel in Ethiopia.

I guess I could have checked out at noon on my last day, but then I would have been homeless until 9PM when I left that evening.

I didn't mind it, as I didn't feel like wondering around for 9 hours with all my stuff. It was also worth it to have a shower right before leaving too.

Again, it's worth taking into consideration.

This is excellent advice, thank you so much! We were hoping we could find somewhere to store the bags for a bit.
And yes, arriving at 1pm, leaving at 11pm.
