Cop alert - Phnom Penh
Watch the cops on the intersection of MTT Bvd/Sothearos and Norodom - they have a nifty little trap set up for folk heading back towards MTT against the flow of the one-way signage that's up for the construction in front of Sofitel. Buggers were pulling in everyone not sporting a VIP tag today, and for barang 5,000r won't cut it, it's 10,000r or we're off to the station (didn't want to test this for $1.25 today). My usual fine avoidance wasn't working today, yours might be better. The locals are still paying 5,000r, so that's something.

So what did they actually pull you up for ? Going the wrong way on a one-way area ?
It probably is illegal.

Thanks - they don't hand it back and tell you it's not in Khmer?

No, the ones in PP didn't know what to do when I gave them that from their boss. Then I asked for a receipt and was told to just go away. The ones in Snookyville that stopped me spoke English really well so when I handed that to them when they asked for 10,000riel and I told them they were corrupt, they read it and took pictures of it. BTW/ I got a receipt for the 5,000riel fine. I believe I will frame it. Word must have gotten around as I haven't been stopped since.

If they have a hauling truck nearby so they can confiscate your bike, I'd seek to avoid them at all cost, turning around or choosing and alternate route, cause their confidence is so much higher in that case,
they will charge the barang extra every time, and if you ask for a receipt they will threaten to confiscate your bike and have you pick it up at the police station, which will take quite a while in most cases I've heard.

Re: Cop alert - Phnom Penh
When will these clowns figure out that they could make buckets of money pinging the red light runners at every intersection in Phnom Penh?
Imagine the income that could be generated from all the Bong Thoms if there was a red light camera at just one main intersection. Of course, you'd need to have all the plated car owner's addresses recorded and the political will to do something about it especially those with Govt or RCAF vehicles, the ones that should be setting an example to the rest of the population.
I was turning right onto Norodom this afternoon behind a Tuk Tuk, just as I was about to pass him on his left side he saw the cops waiting for him down the road and very abruptly turned the other way without looking. I had to brake hard to avoid hitting the moron, causing my front wheel to lock up and slide - nearly lost it. That's now two times I've almost been hit by fucktards doing a runner from the cops.

I want to give this a go, I'll print it and put copies with each vehicle.Sailorman wrote:No, the ones in PP didn't know what to do when I gave them that from their boss. It will be interesting to hear how they deal with you handing them the brochure, compared to when your local driver does (if he's game enough to do so).StroppyChops wrote:I want to give this a go, I'll print it and put copies with each vehicle.Sailorman wrote:No, the ones in PP didn't know what to do when I gave them that from their boss.
