Charlie Chaplin visited Cambodia
Did you know: Charlie Chaplin visited Cambodia decades before it became the backpacker haven and tropical paradise it is today? At the height of his fame, Charlie Chaplin took a well-deserved five-month holiday in Asia. He visited China, Vietnam and Cambodia, he may have gotten married, and – a man ahead of his time – refused to hunt any of Asia’s magnificent wildlife for sport.
From Charlie’s to Chaplin’s
The owners of Chaplin’s Guesthouse & Restaurant, Charlie and Charlie, first met serving together in the military. They shared both a desire to get away from it all and a passion for Charlie Chaplin, but it wasn’t until visiting Kampong Cham that the Charlies realized they had found the perfect home for their home-away-from-home.
Today, more and more people are seeking authentic cultural experiences abroad – especially in Southeast Asia – northeastern Cambodia especially is seeing more visitors each year. With some of the most stunning landscapes and illusive wildlife, the provinces of Kampong Cham, Ratanakiri and Mondulkiri are quickly becoming a must-see on the Cambodia circuit – for adventure travelers and families alike.
On February 7th 1936, the film Modern Times premiered at Grauman’s Chinese Theater in Hollywood, California. Five days later, Chaplin – along with his Modern Times costar and sweetheart Paulette Goddard – sailed from the United States on the S.S. ‘President Coolidge’ across the Pacific. The pair explored Saigon (now Ho Chi Minh), Dalat, Hue, Hanoi, Shanghai, Singapore, the Malacca Straits, Bali and Java, and, of course Cambodia, the Kingdom of Wonder.

បើសិនធ្វើចេះ ចេះឲ្យគេកោត បើសិនធ្វើឆោត ឆោតឲ្យគេអាណិត។
If you know a lot, know enough to make them respect you, if you are stupid, be stupid enough so they can pity you.

Can I be another one of you favourite comedians. I will even let you name your future guesthouse after me.
Cambodia,,,, Don't fall in love with her.
Like the spoilt child she is, she will not be happy till she destroys herself from within and breaks your heart.
