Cambodia to reopen to Tourists

Do you have a Cambodian trip report you want to share? Post it here, and feel free to link to your blog if it's a travel blog for Cambodia, South East Asia, or anywhere really. You can ask and answer questions about travel advice in Cambodia or just share your pictures and videos with us. Most people who live in or visit Cambodia have also checked out nearby countries like Vietnam, Thailand, Laos, Myanmar, Malaysia, Indonesia and the Philippines, and you can get to most of these countries by traveling overland, so put any travel plans, reviews or questions here. Discussions about dirt bike trails in here as well.

I would be nice if that spammer could stop derailing threads with his covid conspiracy junk. Maybe his posting right can be reduced to the asinine area. He has a bad impact on the forum and no interest in the topics. Time to act.

I understand the forum rules about abusive language.
But surely some exception could be made for these f@#kwits.

Same logic used by the worldwide media complex to quell dissent and disagreement.

Or in Cambodia, you look down on the Cambodian people or culture.

Reasoned debate is the hallmark of a thriving democracy.

But I stand by my prediction, Cambodia is (for the most part) going to live with the virus.

Widespread non testing, self quarantine, and self treatment. Except in the cities where there are large foreigner populations.

The country is preparing to open up.

I suspect when their new best friend tells them to issue VOAs for all again, then it will be done.

However there may be preferential treatment in who gets VOAs first.

Just my opinions.

Here's your reporter from the province. Symptomatic people testing positive (before: all people testing positive) in the province (at least my province) are taken (yes, taken. not requested to go) to the local high school (or a primary school further out when full) for 'treatment'.

Those facilities aim for a quick recovery and are guarded by MP.

Tour operators split on Cambodia’s phased reopening plan

The announcement that Cambodia will start welcoming vaccinated travellers under its sandbox scheme has received a mixed reaction from agents.

From November 30, visitors can enjoy quarantine-free travel to the coastal city of Sihanoukville, Koh Rong island and the Dara Sakor area of Koh Kong. This will be extended to Siem Reap in January as the initial stages of a phased reopening.

On arrival, visitors must take a rapid Covid-19 test and be booked on a package for at least five days.

Virginie Kury, general manager of Asian Trails Cambodia, welcomed the move as a “positive step and way forward to opening the country”. She added: “It seems that after Thailand, Cambodia will be the second country in South-east Asia to reopen, which is great news for the country and economy.”

Sinan Thourn, CEO of B2B Cambodia, echoed the sentiment. “Now all of us can officially start to inform partners about the reopening, and DMCs and tour operators can resume their work,” he said.

However, Steve Lidgey, general manager at Travel Asia a la Carte, believes the restrictions “will only delay the start of recovery”. Said Lidgey: “There are so many countries where it’s far easier to visit. Cambodia will simply be overlooked.”

He revealed he has no plans to actively promote Cambodia under the current conditions. “If we announce to overseas partners Cambodia has reopened but explain the various restrictions, it’s likely to have a negative impact. We will wait for better news before we start pushing,” he added.

Under the scheme, international arrivals must land at Sihanoukville International Airport – a snag as international arrivals, even pre-pandemic, are limited to China. “At this stage, we are still missing flight connectivity,” said Kury. “We trust as demand increases, routes and airlines will too.”

Jacques Guichandut, managing director of All Dreams Cambodia, welcomed the move but said the phased reopening puts Cambodia in direct competition with its neighbours. He fears Cambodia has lost the opportunity to promote itself as a single destination.

“Cambodia has been seen as an extension of Vietnam and Thailand, and unfortunately, with such an opening, this will remain for many years,” noted Guichandut.

Lidgey said the Siem Reap opening shows “a little potential” for longhaul destinations. However, without a full reopening, there will be little impact.

“Until vaccinated travellers can arrive freely, there will be no large uptake,” he added. “If nothing changes, the hospitality industry will continue to struggle and see further casualties until October 2022 onwards.”

That is all you, me and the blind man with his dog really needs to read. ^^ imo

Slight diversion -
When they finally do open up, do you reckon we will be flooded with a new crop of sparkling eyed, enthusiastic, doers, adventurers and discoverers - like many of us old expats once were?
People who are genuinely interested in experiencing and learning about the real Cambodia, not just looking for tourist/expat "comfort stations" (burger bars, swimming pools, 7/11s, aircon and bacon and eggs et al).

Ahhh... those were the days - before our bodies, our brains and our excitements all turned to comfortable reassuring old mush...

Anyway, i for one intend to give it my bloody best shot.
Flock senility, bar flies and 7/11 for a life.
I'll mix it with the manbuns and dreads if i have to. Say what you want, but at least they ain't package tourists or the walking dead.
Lets get the joint jumpin' with real excitement once again - i say.
'Remember the word 'Wonder' ?? I want still that.

LOL: they just figured that out?

Casinos an eating wild endangered animals in Chinese owned, run, staffed restaurants.

not very attractive to westerners on a holiday vs 1 night quarantine in much of Thailand starting nov 1st

I see the only change is for the ongoing Chinese tourist not to have 14 days quarantine. But for them what needs to change is the quarantine period before they are allowed to return to China.

This ain't over yet. Frightening the masses for months is backfiring now.

My kids school just let me know after receiving complaints from 'the majority of the parents and teachers about re-opening the school' the school director has decided to continue online classes until further notice.
