A big plus mark from Big Brother

Do you have a Cambodian trip report you want to share? Post it here, and feel free to link to your blog if it's a travel blog for Cambodia, South East Asia, or anywhere really. You can ask and answer questions about travel advice in Cambodia or just share your pictures and videos with us. Most people who live in or visit Cambodia have also checked out nearby countries like Vietnam, Thailand, Laos, Myanmar, Malaysia, Indonesia and the Philippines, and you can get to most of these countries by traveling overland, so put any travel plans, reviews or questions here. Discussions about dirt bike trails in here as well.

A big plus mark from Big Brother

Post by AB101 »

My brother has just returned from an Asian trip (re-union in Vietnam) and spent a week in Phnom Pehn at the Pavilion Hotel.

Comments were that despite the negative reports he had heard about the city, he found it very clean and beautiful. The hotel was apparently spotless and the streets clean and quiet. Far from what he had been told to expect. Admittedly he did not venture out a great deal as he felt so happy with the hotel and it's surrounding area.

I do not spend anytime in Phnom Pehn preferring the outer lying regions as my wife and myself prefer peace and quiet but this sounded great and maybe deserves a visit.

You sure he left the hotel at all?

Why?

Yes! He is correct.
The streets of Phnom Penh are beautifully clean and quiet.

I don't believe he saw much of the "outer lying regions". 8-)

Read my post. He never claimed to have ventured out far, just commented on the area he was staying in.

Why so much negativity for praising a place?

It's great to have some positive input, and much of the city is a lot tidier and cleaner than it was 15-20 years ago. However it's a long stretch to call the streets "clean and beautiful". Even in the more affluent parts of town there are broken up paths covered in garbage and building detritus. I can only guess you are from Port Moresby, Karachi or Baltimore or somewhere similar so this place looks relatively fancy to you? :?

Why the insults about where I live, have I in my short time on this forum ever insulted you? And again, please read my post. This was a comment from my brother and not me.

For the record, I live in Herndon. Virginia (for now).

Welcome to the forum AB101.

JB, if you could ease off a bit, would be nice.

Perhaps his brother arrived just before Water Festival in time for one of the big street clean-ups. Things can look quite good before Chinese New Year as well, if you are in the right place at the right time when all the rubbish has been burnt or disposed of.

Nice to see a positive view of PP for once though. We see the negatives enough as it is.
