back to SR after 8 years..my experience

Do you have a Cambodian trip report you want to share? Post it here, and feel free to link to your blog if it's a travel blog for Cambodia, South East Asia, or anywhere really. You can ask and answer questions about travel advice in Cambodia or just share your pictures and videos with us. Most people who live in or visit Cambodia have also checked out nearby countries like Vietnam, Thailand, Laos, Myanmar, Malaysia, Indonesia and the Philippines, and you can get to most of these countries by traveling overland, so put any travel plans, reviews or questions here. Discussions about dirt bike trails in here as well.

They cannot even drive a car.
And yet, this country runs and runs relatively well, considering what it has to work with: I can't think of the last time there was a major aviation incident, train derailment, or transport disaster save that boat sinking in the Mekong almost two years ago (compare to a "first world" nation like Korea, which seems to have massive fatalities nearly every year at the same rate as Cambodia, yet is far, far more affluent and "safe").

The tap water isn't poisonous, the electricity infrastructure works relatively well and is far more reliable than California and South Africa (both places I have also experienced)--What, because a few methed-out Tuktuk drivers get into road accidents, that somehow speaks volumes for the safety ethic of the entire nation and capability to work in high tech industries?
I understand the point you are making, okay. But what in California did you experience that led to your conclusion about its electricity infrastructure? An earthquake?

(sorry, Truffledog, what a tangent)
In California it’s heat waves. In Texas it’s heat waves and cold fronts. Power grids can’t handle the amount of electricity used to cool/heat homes and businesses.

I apologize, didn’t mean to answer a question that wasn’t directed at me, just my experience.

Yeah the rolling blackouts during extreme heat. Some counties worse than others.
But on a daily, individual, level (and maybe I'm just lucky), I've experienced far more power outages in Cambodia than in California (e.g., during random thunder storms). Again, maybe I'm just lucky but that's why the statement got my attention.

Will be spending some time in SR later this month with family.
Would be great to get recommendations for family friendly eating places preferably away from Pub Street.
Jungle Burger, Il Forno, Urban Tree Hut - are they all suitable for families?
I’ll be working during the day so the family will explore/play in pool but evenings I’m on a promise to entertain them.

Also the wife likes a pretty skybar - I can’t think of any in SR. Anybody recommend somewhere with a pretty view that won’t cost the earth for a beer.

Il Forno has a nice upstairs tables where you will feel perfectly comfortable with your family. Urban Tree Hut has a wunderful garden setting (also some AC indoor tables if too hot) and also perfectly suitable for a family. Jungle Bar is basically as the name says a smallish bar (no loud music) and tables have little spaces in between them..but the burgers are great stuff.

The Chiro Sky Bar may be a place your wife likes without going broke.
work is for people who cant find truffles

My entire duration in San Francisco, I had power outages lasting as long as 2 hours almost every 3-4 days or so, invariably blamed on some "natural" disaster, "climate change" or what may have you (what I suppose one might call "weather"), but in reality California is well-beyond electric capacity as the bankrupt, criminally negligible state utility Pacific Gas & Electric has failed to upgrade stations and the state itself has failed to integrate regional grids (SoCal has the equally shitty Edison), so it has become so bad that restaurants will eat by candlelight and generators are a booming business.

(It also doesn't seem to have gotten better)

I find that during the rodvrosa season that the electricity has been far more consistent here (just outside krong Siem Reap city limits) during storms than it ever was in California: Too hot? PG&E cut. Climate change? "Scheduled outage". Earthquake? Rain storm? Fire? You already know. If PG&E had an excuse to cut power regardless of how flimsy, they will cut power.
