AirAsia's Fernandes plots Cambodia expansion
KUALA LUMPUR -- Billionaire aviation tycoon Tony Fernandes is looking seriously at launching an AirAsia Group affiliate in Cambodia, followed by China and Myanmar.
Cambodian law does not restrict foreign ownership in the local airline industry, but new carriers are required to invest up to $30 million in the country during the first three years, excluding aircraft.
The country's growing popularity as a tourist destination has already attracted several China-backed carriers, with six scheduled airlines now in the mix.
Outside the capital Phnom Penh, Cambodia's Siem Reap International Airport is one of the busiest in Southeast Asia. It saw 4.5 million passengers last year due to the surging international interest in the nearby Angkor Wat temple complex, the world's largest religious monument.

Re: Aviation News
I guess the only benefit of this is that other airlines will drop their prices. I for one won’t be in a hurry to stand in line for 20 minutes extra waiting for the final “hot seat” “zone 1” “last call” passenger only because they spent an extra $5 I didn’t know was an option.

I travel with my MacBook all the time. The problem is with technically obtuse people misunderstanding what is actually written, or being given misleading information on which to reach a bad decision.DaveG wrote: ↑Sat Oct 12, 2019 5:25 pm Hi all,
Anyone had problems carrying a MacBook Pro 15 on the any flights recently, confusing information out there, Iv e mailed 4 airlines so far and not one has responded, some say total ban on all MacBooks, some are saying only affected models depending on serial number, most are saying they do not have time to check serial number at security, this info comes from the websites but none of them seen to answer a direct question e mailed to them.
Any experience attempting to board a flight with a MacBook would be appreciated.
The problem is I believe MacBook Pro 15 inch, 2015 models (2015-2017). The battery is on recall from Apple.
If the battery has been replaced under the recall, then no problem.
If the model is not affected by the recall, then no problem.
Neither of mine is in the affected category.
Problem-
Low paid staff with little time to interpret and understand the issue and rule, thus a blanket (unofficial) ban by some staff.
As staff, we often had similar problems getting clear guidance on such things, so I am not surprised that customers get less.
Emirates has been the clearest so far.
One airline I travelled with recently (eurowings, maybe, but I’m not certain) said no Apple MacBook computers at all, until I pointed out the error of their understanding of the info directly in front of them. At which point some dismissive comment and being waved through without further challenge.

In fact Siem Reap passenger traffic declined 4.8% in H1 2019 compared to H1 2018 and is nowhere near being the busiest in SE Asia.Kung-fu Hillbilly wrote: ↑Fri Nov 22, 2019 5:43 am

Philippine Airlines flight to Manila makes emergency landing in Los Angeles
A witness on the ground described "bursts of flames" coming out of an engine.

Nov 22, 2019
LOS ANGELES - A Philippine Airlines flight bound for Manila suffered an apparent engine failure on Thursday (Nov 21) shortly after take-off from Los Angeles and made an emergency landing, the authorities said.
Pilots of Flight 113 declared an emergency and reported a possible engine failure on the Boeing 777, Los Angeles International Airport said. A witness on the ground described "bursts of flames" coming out of an engine.
There were no immediate reports of injuries, and it was unclear how many people were aboard the plane.
The Federal Aviation Administration said the plane returned and landed without incident. Television station ABC-7 in Los Angeles aired video of the plane after take-off that showed flames and smoke coming out of the right engine.

Airlines turn noses up at Thai pilots
Thai pilots are failing to find work after graduation despite high global demand in the aviation industry, the Civil Aviation Training Centre president said on Monday.
International airline operators are competing to offer jobs to pilots, but “our pilots find no jobs”, according to Piya Atmungkun.
Aviation programmes and pilot training schools have mushroomed, but many fail to meet international standards, according to RAdm Piya.
New pilots are being churned out continually without information of how many of them are actually employable by airline companies. This has led to the oversupply of pilots who aren't up to scratch, he said.

Plane makes emergency landing after pilot has fatal heart attack mid-flight
A passenger plane had to make an emergency landing in Russia after one of its pilots suffered a heart attack and later died.
The Aeroflot flight, which was en route from Moscow to the Black Sea resort of Anapa on Sunday, made an emergency landing at Platov International Airport in Rostov-on-Don, according to Russian state news agency TASS.
An emergency landing was requested after the co-pilot, whose age has not been revealed, began to feel unwell, TASS reported.
Aeroflot added that the pilot had a clean medical history and had passed medical tests the day before the flight, in addition to an examination in the northern summer.

AirAsia Wants to Beat U.S. Fast Food Chains by Opening First Airline Food Restaurant
The world’s first attempt to bring airline cuisine to the ground — not the other way round — is here, and in a few years AirAsia figures there’ll be a chain of 1,000 franchised restaurants. It’s becoming a serious matter.
AirAsia on Monday opened its first quick-service restaurant and cafe, based on the airline’s inflight Santan menu and T&Co coffee, in a mega-mall in Mid Valley, a central shopping haven in Kuala Lumpur.
By the end of 2020, the airline group aims to own five Santan restaurants and, within the next three to five years, have 100 franchisee-operated restaurants and cafes in global markets, according to general manager of Santan Restaurant and T&Co Cafe, Catherine Goh. AirAsia is hoping to open in locations where lots of U.S. fast food chains, like McDonald’s, draw crowds of hungry Asians currently.
AirAsia claims it has Santan junkies for dishes such as Pak Nasser’s Nasi Lemak (coconut rice with chilli paste) and Uncle Chin’s Chicken Rice. The menu is extensive and representative of ASEAN dishes, with favorites such as Pineapple Fish Noodle from Cambodia and Chicken Inasal with Garlic Rice from the Philippines.
Secondly, prices are affordable, from less than $3 (12 Malaysian Ringgit) for a dish.
