AirAsia Plans to Launch Low-Cost Airline in Cambodia
Re: AirAsia Plans to Launch Low-Cost Airline in Cambodia
Okay, Ko Chang is easily reached from the bus terminal in Trat. But anywhere in Eastern Thailand? I think not, in many cases it would be better to fly from Phnom Penh to Suvarnabhumi and to continue from there. Pattaya (also a popular destination in Eastern Thailand) would be an example, doing that via Trat is a pain.armchairlawyer wrote: ↑Wed Mar 20, 2024 5:41 pmAnywhere in eastern Thailand. If you want to visit Trat, that's obviously the way to go.armchairlawyer wrote: ↑Wed Mar 20, 2024 4:36 pmThe cost is $90 for a Highlander from your home in PP to the border (including tolls) then $5 per person in the minivan to Trat. So for 4 people that's $100, or $25 per person one-way trip to Trat. It's even worth doing now, it will be a lot better when the new road is finished.armchairlawyer wrote: ↑Wed Mar 20, 2024 11:24 am Speaking of new roads, the road to Koh Kong will be finished about the same time as the new airport is due to open. That will make eastern Thailand an attractive propostion by road, and much more economic than flying if you have a group of 4. And you get carbon footprint points too, if you care about such things. Unlimited baggage too and no worries about check-in demanding a return ticket, or getting held up in traffic and missing your flight, or getting ripped off by the taxi into town. Thai immigration only let you enter by land twice per calendar year however. Although if you have a visa it's unlimited.
And anyway, if I was coming all the way from Cambodia to Thailand just for a beach, I'd go to Southern Thailand. If you go to Ko Chang, you could just as well go to a beach in Cambodia or to Phu Quoc.

You're talking about NE Thailand (Isaan). For that one could take NR5 which is in exceelent condition already (as far as Battambang) and cross at Poipet. I understand that can be a busy crossing sometimes, however, unlike Koh Kong which is an easy one.Kammekor wrote: ↑Wed Mar 20, 2024 5:53 pmMaybe change it southeastern Thailand. Trat to Sisaket is quite a trip to make, probably easier straight from Phnom Penh. Not even talking about Ubon...armchairlawyer wrote: ↑Wed Mar 20, 2024 5:41 pmAnywhere in eastern Thailand. All true. However, the point remains that as the Cambodian roads are improved from pretty awful to very good, the choices are becoming interesting.Alex wrote: ↑Wed Mar 20, 2024 6:38 pmarmchairlawyer wrote: ↑Wed Mar 20, 2024 5:41 pmAnywhere in eastern Thailand. BTW, the road from Koh Kong border to Trat is very nice as well.
Koh Chang offers a lot more than the Khmer islands. And there is Ko Mak and Ko Kood as well. You don't need to go south. Many people like Chantaburi area (not for beaches) and that is an easy drive from Trat.

Or up to Pailin and cross at one of the 2 crossings there, Ban Pakard / Phsar Prum – or Ban Leam / Daun Lemarmchairlawyer wrote: ↑Wed Mar 20, 2024 9:20 pmYou're talking about NE Thailand (Isaan). I consider NE Thailand a part of Eastern Thailand. Apparently you don't.armchairlawyer wrote: ↑Wed Mar 20, 2024 9:20 pmYou're talking about NE Thailand (Isaan). Re: AirAsia Plans to Launch Low-Cost Airline in Cambodia
Looking at the Air Asia website today for flights from Siem Reap to PP, there are free (actually $27) one way flights available on nearly every day from the off (2 May) except for a few of the earliest days. From 31 July, the service ceases to be daily, according to the booking page.
The "free" seat offer was scheduled to finish yesterday.
