This info came through in the nick of time!
I was just about to buy a ticket to BKK costing $55 ($7 of which is refundable for my Khmer partner) and includes baggage allowance. On arrival I'd have had to pay $1 for the 30 minute train ride into the city.
But now I can get a "free" seat to go to SAI for $49 (less $1 tax refund for Khmers but no baggabge included).
No brainer. Angkor Wat here I come.

Sounds like 44$ fuel surcharge and 5$ departure tax.

Almost $20 are airport & government fees. Which the AirAsia management has already complained about it, that the fees in Cambodia are much higher than other ASEAN countries.

I dare say they have also raised the small matters of the high passport fees in Cambodia (this could explain why they have started with only domestic routes) and the tourist visa charges (again not a factor with domestic routes). My guess is these isssues will be addressed in about 15 months time, coincidental with a certain event.

Is the fuel surcharge a fixed amount? Surely it is based on the distance flown and is a carrier imposed charge, not a government one.

Additionally, If I understand correctly the new routes will be from the new tech airport(from next year) which is 20kms outside of pp to the new Siem reap airport which is about the same 20km distance from Sr town. How much more money and time will that add? I would guess 4 hours in total. Including flight time, transportation, check in/out boarding etc.

Might be better to take a private taxi or even a bus

I think the new PP airport is a little bit further out than that, 30-40 km's.
