Air Asia want their money back.

Do you have a Cambodian trip report you want to share? Post it here, and feel free to link to your blog if it's a travel blog for Cambodia, South East Asia, or anywhere really. You can ask and answer questions about travel advice in Cambodia or just share your pictures and videos with us. Most people who live in or visit Cambodia have also checked out nearby countries like Vietnam, Thailand, Laos, Myanmar, Malaysia, Indonesia and the Philippines, and you can get to most of these countries by traveling overland, so put any travel plans, reviews or questions here. Discussions about dirt bike trails in here as well.

We could probably all chip in and buy the airline. 'Only cost us about $500 mill.
You think that is expenno?
It was 700 mill 24 hours ago.
or 2.5 bill on this day last year.
or 4 bill just 30 months ago.

So yeah, they are in the poo.
It looks like they were not doing all that great even before those dastardly bats came along.

Currently looking for $220 mill urgent bail out.
- 40% of current market cap. Not a good look. (I am being polite here)

Options being discussed
Big loan
Sell major stake
Sell non- core operations
Gov bail out and/or merger with Malasian Airlines.

In the super super very very bent and secretive world of the Malaysian airline environment, expect some action happening on that last one ^^.
The gov is already looking at a tax payer gift of 400 mill to AA, Malaysian and Mindaloo.

Hey, we can probably pick it up now for about 20 mill cheaper than it was priced when i started writing this post.

NB, probably not wise to buy a ticket on an airline that is sinking like a stone - 'kinda goes against the general plan.

(amounts quoted are USD. multiply by about 4.2 for MYR)

Why would anyone buy / bailout a defunked airline with a big debt. Better for it to be declared bankrupt and closed down .

Invest your money in Asia Air 2 to Everywhere, when it starts up . They will have the same expertise, knowledge and know how to run a airline .

I agree with you Duncan. Even if they do manage to get a huge loan or restructure their losses into long term debt, they will be hobbled by the debt load, plus all their other debt. They will be susceptible to a new low cost airline without a crippling debt burden doing to them what they did to others.

So that's progress, quarantines and $3000 deposits notwithstanding. I did't realise they had resumed service here, and tbh with all the restrictions I am surprised.

ETA: appears to be once a week on Thursdays.
That's good news and now puts Malaysia airlines into play for European travellers thus avoiding the 5 hour Seoul to Phnom Penh connection. That's once Malaysia Airlines wake up from their slumber.
And Malaysia allow transit.
And they change their flight time to nearer 6pm to allow for connections

I wonder if transit between KLIA1 & KLIA2 is possible though? Seeing as AirAsia flights depart from the latter?

There’s no denying that our industry has been hit hard, and we are no exception. This is possibly the biggest challenge we have ever had to face. We have no revenue coming in, 96% of our fleet is grounded and we still have significant ongoing financial commitments such as fuel suppliers and leasing agents.

The train connects the two with about a 5 minuets trip between each airport.

Well duh. That might be true under normal circumstances, Duncan. But I have now checked and Malaysia Airports' latest info says "only transit within the same terminal is allowed for international transit travellers". So unless you're connecting to another AirAsia flight (or one of the few other airlines operating out of KLIA2) it's still not much use.

Well your more up-to- date with that info than me , so i guess it's understandable.
