Yanks topping themselves at a blistering pace

Yeah, that place out 'there'. Anything not really Cambodia related should go here.

The US is a measly 30th. Check out S. Korea. They must get really depressed that they're not starving to death like their Northern rivals: Suicides per 100,000 people per year[2]

Education depending field. Science and engineering mostly. I majored in business...didn't learn anything I didn't know already from working. Me and you already discussed this once before.

9/10 successful people I know barley graduated high school. I admire them a lot but because they would out wit most people who feel they are a dignified person with such pedigree.

Now Em I saying you shouldn't go to school(which soi douche would come back and say) No of course not. But someone who is already working while they should be attending college is already financially ahead of the post under grad.

As for relocating...I really had(have) zero desire to move to any other state. Vermont, North Carolina...maybe Maine. So I decided to really throw my life a curve ball and move to Cambodia. So far no regrets. Best move of my life hands down. Now dealing with the people of this country is a different story but all and all GREAT!

Hey Add Jay, didn't mean to imply there was only one path to the top of the mountain. Nothing wrong with your choice to "really throw my life a curve ball and move to Cambodia." In fact, I think it is great. And yes, I was speaking mostly about science and engineering, although some business degrees like accounting can lead to good jobs as well.

I have a couple of friends that in their younger years started off on the curve too. One, a physics major, after school started up a rock and roll band, and toured the country for a couple of years, picking up a wife (to whom he is still married) along the way. Later on he joined an electronics start-up and now this old rock and roller has dozens of patents in electronics design and made a good deal of money along the way and made a very comfortable life for himself and his family.

Another guy I know didn't have any idea what to do after school, but loved to ski. He became a ski instructor and bummed around doing that for a while. Later he married the prettiest girl from his high school, became successful in real estate and in several businesses.

Heck I even remember years ago I worked for a guy who had two kids. One that he bragged about was a court reporter, made tons of money working in Hawaii. His other kid, just a surf bum, he didn't talk about him. A few years later there was an article about one of his kids in Forbes magazine. Forbes! It wasn't the court reporter. His surf bum son started a successful line of surfing and clothing wear. Hey, I worked hard right out of college (worked in college too) but never got no stinking article in Forbes!

And yes there are others I know who are very successful without a college degree, although that route is often much harder.

But hey, many paths, so I never judge. The only thing that gets my gall are those who complain that the cards are stacked against them. Yes of course they are, the are and were always stacked against all of us. So what?

At any rate I wish you nothing but the best of luck in your life, and would never presume to judge your decisions. At the end we just tally up our successes minus our mistakes and hope we come out a bit on the plus side and then include the adventures we had along the way. That is life.
I wish I knew a whole lot more, or a whole lot less.

Hell I spent years working in a super market working for peanuts but I saved up and bought myself a Lincoln. Felt pretty damn good. After that I got a nice job but with even making double and far less hours it actually made no difference to me as far me my economic mobility! I could have stuck it out as most elder males told me to do but HEY! You only live once.

my most recent gig ( at a university ) was in the low 6 figures.
i am a high school dropout, but have always been able to learn cutting edge work skills.
Universities self identify now as irrelevant in many disciplines.
business is a natural path requiring mostly the ability to risk, and survive failure.
