Verdict Released in Micheal Brown/Darren Wilson shooting.
http://www.npr.org/blogs/thetwo-way/201 ... brown-case
Latest as of this post.A grand jury did not indict Ferguson, Mo., police officer Darren Wilson for any crimes related to the death of 18-year-old Michael Brown in August.
Wilson, who is white, shot and killed Brown, who was unarmed and black, in an Aug. 9 incident that has stoked anger and debate in Ferguson and beyond.
This story is developing, and we're updating this post to reflect the latest news.
Update at 9:24 p.m. ET: Grand Jury Does Not Indict Wilson
The grand jury found that "no probable cause exists" to file any indictments against Wilson, McCulloch said.
Earlier, the prosecutor said, "There is no question, of course, that Darren Wilson caused the death of Michael Brown." He then discussed areas of the law that might apply to the case, such as self-defense.
Update at 9:18 p.m. ET: First, An Overview
McCulloch began his news conference around 8:15 p.m. local time (9:15 p.m. ET), at a courthouse in Clayton, Mo., by expressing his sympathies for Brown's family, noting that they lost a loved one to violence.
He then ran through an overview of the events that have transpired since Wilson and Brown encountered one another on the street. And McCulloch stressed that all evidence in the case has been shared by local and federal agencies.
McCulloch went on to note challenges in the case, which he said ranged from the 24-hour news cycle to statements from witnesses that didn't match up — and some statements from witnesses that were later recanted.
But he stressed that nearly all witness interviews had been recorded and presented to the jury.
The jury's decision is coming out after weeks of anticipation and concern over how the Ferguson community might respond to the latest development in a case that has ignited racial tensions and pitted protesters and police against one another.
Hours earlier, Gov. Jay Nixon urged people on all sides of the issue to show "peace, respect, and restraint." One week ago, Nixon declared a state of emergency.

i would like to see comparative statistics on how many unarmed whiteboys get shot by black officers.

Wouldn't it have made more sense to release this verdict in the morning, so that those anti police protestors hell bent on violence, despite the wishes of the Brown family, would have a harder job of using the cover of darkness to shield their actions.
Yes sir, I can boogie, I can boogie, boogie, boogie all night long.

The problem is the decision didn't come until late itself. Had they tried to sit on it, it would have leaked anyway and they wouldn't have been able to frame the wording of its announcement or prepare for its release.

The riots are a good thing. The United States will never wake up to the racism that black Americans face every day or the militarized police threat until things get ugly.

Arson and looting reported now on CNN
I hope they're doing the looting first and then the arson or it wont work very well
I think the cop should be put on trial and all evidence and witness seen in a court of law, then we can see if justice is served. no idea if it was murder or not as i wasnt there, but really - give the guy a (fair) trial FFS
as a non american i actually have no idea what a grand jury is or what the process was there, anybody feel like commenting on that ?

Re: Verdict Released in Micheal Brown/Darren Wilson shooting
A grand jury is a group of citizens who are selected at the beginning of a year and basically decide which cases will go to trial in a give jurisdiction. Sometimes grand juries only rule over specific types of crime. But again, they don't decide guilt, just whether enough evidence exists to indict. Not all states use them either. Also, this decision has no effect on whether the feds will indict him.

Last report I heard was that police and firefighters were pulling back out of the area after they came under automatic rifle fire.
