Kudos to ACE

Yeah, that place out 'there'. Anything not really Cambodia related should go here.

Kudos to ACE

Post by newkidontheblock »

Finally missus got a real barang teacher. Night and day difference. Teacher is a 15 year veteran of ACE.

On the first day of class, teacher informed all his students that he’s gonna be tough. Told students he doesn’t tolerate chatting in class, using cell phones, etc. Also recommended students should take the class before his to brush up on their skills.

Missus reports that he teaches his English class as if they were all local students in a western country. A whole ton of material is covered in depth at each class. Her last class covered all the vocabulary from the airport to the airplane. He even included Hummingbirds as well.

This teacher even anticipates problems with the textbook. He went over in depth with the class areas where the textbook is fuzzy or lessons are not easily understood.

ACE has a deservedly high reputation because of stellar teachers like him.

Kudos, ACE.

ACE has managed to stay number one for a long time. They're mentioned many times in Love and Loss in Cambodia, and what stood out to me is that they used to pay teachers $22 an hour back in 1997, and I think that's what they still pay them now, 22 years later.

Could you send more information about the class? Is it actually in ACE or the teacher has ACE experience but teaches elsewhere / independently? I would like to send missus on a course too and trying to find a good one.

How do Hummingbirds fit in there?
Silence, exile, and cunning.

This wonderful teacher goes way beyond the book. When he goes back to Texas and has breakfast with his parents, there is a hummingbird feeder outside their dining room.

Students got a story and extra lesson about a bird that most Khmer would have never known about. Missus now knows what hummingbirds eat, what their migration patterns are, what they sound like, in addition to a cute picture.

Just another example of how good this guy is.

Supposedly he is full time ACE all his teaching career.

Again, this outstanding guy totally justifies ACE’s reputation.
