Police in Germany are searching for an unknown suspect behind a mass stabbing at a festival on Friday night that killed three and injured eight, five of them seriously.

The knife attack took place as thousands of people gathered at the central square in the city of Solingen in the country’s west during celebrations to mark its 650th anniversary, billed as a festival of diversity.

Officials earlier said a 15-year-old boy was arrested early Saturday. Police said he was suspected of knowing about the planned attack and failing to inform authorities, but he was not the attacker.

Markus Caspers, senior public prosecutor from the counterterrorism section of the public prosecutors office, told a news conference earlier Saturday that authorities have not found the perpetrator.

It has nothing to do with immigration, or being a local or what. They are not immigrants, they grew up there! Their insane behavior is an outlet valve for their crushed repression to explode into open resentment because a debased squalid religious system has destroyed their hearts. All their mothers and fathers are mean... The religion and it's socially debilitating effect pre-existed these peoples' arrival in England. Most grew up there, it's their parents who came. But the narrow economic privilege of the UK forces their social-economic confinement to flower into a hideous mutation of rubbish, rot and insanity... Your son cannot become a high street banker unless he grows up in the right schools from quite early on... Etc, etc. Makes room for a lot of insane resentment to grow: that's rubbishy England...
