The virus and the poor, refugees and kids
I know another covid thread but this is not been brought up
what about all the refugee camps throughout the world
what about the poor & homeless
what about the kids that have lost a place to go in the day and now are stuck at home with their parents cause they have lost their jobs, for many kids, (at least in the states) ONLY meal is the one they get at school, what now? What scars will be left on their minds
These are all the marginalized people, the ones nobody talks about, the ones nobody represents, the ones not counted, the ones with no access to medical help
Lots of questions, nobody seems to have any, ( that's assuming it is even being discussed) answers. I odnt even see it mentioned in the news..

In a nation run by swine, all pigs are upward-mobile and the rest of us are fucked until we can put our acts together: not necessarily to win, but mainly to keep from losing completely. HST
Re: The virus and the poor, refugees and kids
Like every other major crisis hundreds of thousands? millions? will die.... and after its long over some enterprising chap will make a doco about how we really should have acted sooner to save these ppl... same same..

Re: The virus and the poor, refugees and kids
Cambodia is going to be hit hard, at the very least economically.
What can we do now?
Some ideas:
Adopt a destitute family for a period of time (financially), so that they at least get to eat and can pay the rent.
Give out an extra dollar to people in need you encounter.
Just spread more money if you can afford to.
Buy food for homeless people you come across.
Order a takeout from a restaurant you used to frequent.
?
Please share your take on this.

Just carry on as normal and try looking after yourself I would presume most expats already do what you suggest from day one of being hereyongchi wrote: ↑Sun Mar 22, 2020 11:09 pm Cambodia is going to be hit hard, at the very least economically.

It's about time those rich Cambodian driving around in their $200,000 cars cared a bit for their neighbours
I'm standing up, so I must be straight.

Re: The virus and the poor, refugees and kids
What makes you think they don't already? Wealthy people here tend to have quite a few relations on their payroll and send quite a bit back to their home villages and pagodas.
Silence, exile, and cunning.
Re: The virus and the poor, refugees and kids
From my experience they lend them the money on high interest

Re: The virus and the poor, refugees and kids
not really the time for cock fights..
People all over the World are helping neighbors and strangers.
It sure seems like California has a homeless crisis that was well out of hand prior to the Wuhan china virus.
san fran has an app for citizens to use when they find human feces on the sidewalk.
LA has camps of homeless with a host of infectious diseases.
they have a governor who a few months ago was telling the world to come to Cali and get free health care...
Now, they are begging the federal government for help.
using some california system to rescue the world's homeless and poor is a joke..
I know some expats are doing a lot and some are barely scraping by.
I know Khmer people take care of each other.
My wife showed me what her sister and niece and her would share for dinner a few days ago. it was sad and uplifting to see how they pulled together.
It is not a Khmer person's fault their government has a 100+% tax on import cars ...
I think a lot of people around the world have nice cars and houses...but, the bank owns more of them than they do...
Pointing the finger to some rich person to bale out the poor is unfair.
People need to give what they can and be damn sure they have their own lives in order.

Re: The virus and the poor, refugees and kids
The post above compares one of the richest places on the planet with one of the poorest.
Lucky Cambodia has not lost the plot as bad as California/USA.
Probably because the me me me , fuck even my extended familly, money-is-God, highly individualistic Californian/USA society does not look after it's own like Cambodians do.
