The British Government is suing itself

Yeah, that place out 'there'. Anything not really Cambodia related should go here.

Yes.

From the Times..
The EHRC says the health service’s “outdated” policies do not allow transgender people awaiting surgery automatic access to egg or sperm freezing programmes. The NHS, which has been issued with a pre-action letter has 14 days to respond.

The EHRC says transgender patients should be offered the option of having eggs or sperm extracted and stored for future use before they undergo gender dysphoria treatment, which can result in a loss of fertility. Gender dysphoria describes the distress felt by patients because of a mismatch between their biological sex and gender identity.

Local health commissioning groups decide on who gets access to sperm or egg storage.

Provision of fertility services is being cut across England, with cancer patients at risk of reduced fertility due to aggressive treatment now not automatically being offered the option to freeze their reproductive cells.

I always assumed fertility treatment was the placing of eggs in the womb or artificial insemnation, that saving eggs/sperm in a freezer was different.

However i don;t think the NHS should pay for any of this for "anybody" they should pay themselves. Also many other things should not be on the NHS, breast reduction, ear pinning, nose jobs, loads of medications that are cheaper from the chemist than the NHS pays through the nose for, some types of plastic surgey, the list goes on.
The NHS should be there to save lives and cure people. There is a debate to be had about what the NHS should do but i don't see it coming anytime soon. :stir:

They already have cut some of those things but the EHRC didn't threaten to sue about that.

just wait, somebody will try, they will say "my wife cannot sleep because of my snoring so her human rights are being abused, ie the right to sleep"

This story will die, like all the other rubbish that we read daily that is being spread in "certain newspapers"

When someone sues the NHS for medical negligence, one of the arguments made in pre-trial correspondence is that valuable NHS resources should not be diverted to legal expenses in defending such claims. Few claimants were persuaded by this to abandon their claim but nobody will take that argument seriously now that a government-funded body is suing the NHS.

This is not the first time the EHRC has argued for preferential treatment for trans people.

In 2010 they intervened when a trans woman argued that "her" breast augmentation should be funded by the NHS. EHRC argued that you couldn't compare a trans-woman who was dissatisfied with their breast size to a natal woman who was similarly dissatisfied because:
When one is addressing the need for treatment to change shape, one cannot rationally compare a transgender woman with a natal woman: the very issue which is being raised is inherent in the gender dysphoria which leads to discrimination. Only a transgender woman needs breasts to address the very condition from which she suffers, and only transsexuals suffer, of living in a body which is not the gender which they feel themselves to be

They lost.

Probably nothing to do with what you're talking about but I remember the days when the Labor party was for the working man. Now they're for lesbians on the dole. My brother in NZ told me recently there is no need for the father's name to be on the birth certificate nowdays. I suppose so a lesbian couple can conceive a baby and the child will never know who the father is. Because men are disposable and unimportant unless heavy lifting is required. Don't even get me started.
