Terror strikes at a concert in Moscow

Yeah, that place out 'there'. Anything not really Cambodia related should go here.

Medvedev, who has emerged as one of Russia’s most vitriolic pro-war hawks following the full-scale invasion of Ukraine, claimed “it’s more important to kill everyone involved” in the Crocus City Hall attack than just the four suspects being held in custody.

“All of them: those who paid, those who sympathized [and] those who helped,” said Medvedev, who serves at the Deputy Chairman of Russia’s Security Council.

“Kill them all,” he said.
This puts everyone these 4 guys know in the crosshairs. Family, friends, anyone they have ever messaged on any service, all of them are going to get a visit and some of them will just disappear.
This is why Islamic terrorists don't normally target Russians. This is why I knew immediately when they captured these guys they were not hardened ISIS guys, because they would have blown themselves up. Stupid rubes. EDIT: Also, ISIS guys would not be able to travel freely in Russia, so it had to be local, i.e. Russian Federation.

Back in the 1980s, terrorists in Lebanon learned NOT to fuck with the Russians. When one of their diplomats was killed, the KGB came in and killed everyone associated with them -- family members, friends, even their sheep...everything was destroyed. Russians do NOT believe in a proportioned response like most idiot Westerners. You fuck with them, you find out.

I can respect that.

Maybe they were man enough to point their guns at unarmed civilians and massacre them at point blank range, but not quite man enough to turn the rifle around, facing the other way?
Well, consider that -- at least per their own accounts -- they were doing this for money.
Would it make sense to blow your head off before getting paid?
But how did they ever expect to escape? This is what I don't understand about Putin's narrative that they planned to escape to Ukraine. You don't get to put on a wig, some lipstick, some dark glasses, and walk past the entirety of Moscows security services as a concert hall is up in flames behind you with over a hundred dead bodies inside.
Yea it doesn't really add up with your typical ISIS behaviour.

But they may have decided for this operation to use proxies, ie find some loonies and get them to do it for a bit of money. Likely using local agents to recruit them and provide them with the logistics needed.

Or maybe ISIS were paid off to take responsibility, I dunno. :unknown:

To be fair, if you can find 19 people to fly planes into buildings and make them believe that they'll be met with however many virgins in the afterlife, it wouldn't be so hard to convince four people to carry out the atrocities in Moscow and somehow make them believe they'll either be able to walk away scott-free, or be rewarded in the afterlife. I'm assuming that as they didn't kill themselves, they were somehow led to believe that they'd manage to escape.

This the biggest danger of fundamentalist extremists - mind control. Once you have people believing that they are doing the work of Allah, and this is Allah's will, and they will be somehow compensated for their martyrdom, there is absolutely nothing you can do. It's no different to the Japanese Kamikaze pilots of WWII. If you can convince someone that the cause is more important their own life, you have a deadlier weapon than anything Lockheed Martin can come up with.

I think that the notion of the would-be martyred guerilla fighter happily dying in the name of Allah is a little simplistic and naive and that their main motivations would be personal, political and financial to the betterment of those around them; their cause and the future of both or to avenge family killed by the western aggressor . The panacea of Allah and tales of virgins being more for calming the mind in the face of certain death rather than an absolute literal belief; something to scream defiantly at the critical times, whether externally or internally
