I don't know if this is whitewashing (oh, she has a good heart, just made mistakes) or just an admission that she's been a puppet, or even just fake, all along.
The whole saga is typical naive do-gooding westerners meet typical deceitful asians.

She knows where her backing comes from, even IF she had any feelings towards the Rohingya's, she cant say anything.
Majority of Burmese feel they are NOT Burmese. A few times i mentioned them in talks with locals and none of the Burmese i spoke to would acknowledge the word "Rohingya" but called them Bengali's
One of the reasons why the military gave her some powers, is they knew by doing so, western goverment would withdraw some sanctions and Myanmar could enter the 21 century.

You have to question what information the 'majority of the people' were being fed, though it's quite possible they're all just a nasty bunch of murderous racists anyway.
But it's a fair point, what are the limits of democracy?
Should we be able to vote to euthanase simpletons, for example?

They give a clear reason, and I agree with it.
At that time, she deserved the prize, and unless there's any evidence that the decision was mistaken, it should stand.
But the present may judge the past.

It's obvious now that when she was nominated for the prize they only took into account her conduct from the past and not her future conduct. They made a mistake,
but are to ashamed to admit it. She should be stripped of her Noble Peace Prize
