Singapore - Pussy cats?

Yeah, that place out 'there'. Anything not really Cambodia related should go here.

Singapore - Pussy cats?

Post by ofparadise »

SINGAPORE - Seventy-three people have reported symptoms of gastroenteritis after eating food prepared by On & On Diners between Nov 16 and 18 this year. The caterer, had its food business operations suspended until further notice, the Singapore Food Agency (SFA) said on Tuesday (Nov 23). SFA said it is investigating the reports together with the Ministry of Health (MOH), noting that none of the 73 people has been hospitalised. The agency added that On & On Diners must clean and sanitise its premises, equipment and utensils, and dispose of all ready-to-eat food and perishable food items. "Food safety is a joint responsibility... (We) will not hesitate to take firm action against anyone found to be in violation of the Environmental Public Health Act," said SFA. It added that food operators must observe good food and personal hygiene practices at all times. The agency also advised members of the public who come across poor hygiene practices in food establishments to avoid patronising such outlets.

Most singaporeans hold insurance policies that allow them to claim hospitalisation benefits. This includes daily payouts starting at around $150/day for each hospitalisation day. Even a fender bender results in at least 2 hospitalised parties.

This is not the first time Singaporeans have been in the news for mass food poisoning. I know it's not the hygiene of the outlets, as Cambodia is at least 10 times more unregulated and people rarely need to go to the hospital for food poisoning as a group. I gotta admit, that even I profited from this system by selling those policies.

The system there has created pussy cats. Kinda ridiculous...

Should have known when we had to go through compulsory social studies classes in school... basically 40 mins, twice a week of propaganda and a systematic stripping of your belief in your own individual power.

I'm Singaporean, but I dread the day I have to live under that system again. It eats away at your spirit.

Singaporeans on this forum... do offer your views.

I love the country though.. the sand under my feet... It's my land and no country feels the same inside. But the system and the current generation... that's another story.

Pussy cats? Leave out the cats and make the first word plural and I think we're a little closer to the actual term.

Why are you whingeing about insurance payouts when no one was hospitalised?

Your country is a colonial creation that became independent against it's will. Even as a collective you have no power and will be forgotten about if and when Thailand allows the world to bypass you by building a canal.

You seem to have revealed the depths of your ignorance by your last comment. For your sake, I hope you're just drunk and not just dumb.

My country, which you call a colonial creation, existed since the 1200s under the Srivijayan empire. However, this thread is not about history nor is it a discussion of the merits of the colonial experience of the malayas. As mentioned in my original post, this thread is about the sociological implications of the current system.

Now, I'm certain you're not drunk.

What an epic fail. Do you not read your own words?
noting that none of the 73 people has been hospitalised
I didn't read the rest of your comment. Why should I when you clearly don't bother to do so.

So OP, your gripe is that Singapore has become a nanny state?

Reminds me of the 1970s when the place got quite a reputation with stories of 'long hairs' getting a haircut at the airport and tourists getting fined for littering etc

OTOH I suspect Singapore wouldn't have become the modern, developed city state that it is now without strong government leadership.

Then again, I have no idea what it's like to live there permanently.. As a tourist, it strikes me as a clean, modern city...maybe too squeaky clean lacking a bit of personality.

Back to nanny states, I fear Australia has gone down this path too. Covid has highlighted that and the extent to which the government decides what you can and can't do and what's best for you. Authoritarian state and It's gotten ridiculous imho.
