Senator Anning Egged at Press Conference and Punches Teenager after comments on NZ shooting

Yeah, that place out 'there'. Anything not really Cambodia related should go here.

An Australian teenager who gained notoriety for cracking an egg on the head of a senator from his homeland who disparaged Muslims after the massacre at two New Zealand mosques Friday said he is donating most of the more than $50,000 in his GoFundMe page to victims of the tragedy, according to published reports.

.......Anning punched Connolly and the politician’s supporters grabbed the teenager, holding him down on the floor until the police arrived.
The video of the incident went viral on social media, with many people hailing the “Egg Boy” a hero, and some saying that violence at the massacre was not to be addressed with more violence. An artist painted a mural of the incident to honor the teen, and musicians have offered Connolly free concert tickets. T-shirts bearing the image of Connolly’s face are for sale.

....Police released Connolly without charge. But a GoFundMe page with a goal of $50,000 had been set up to cover any legal fees Connolly might have faced. By Monday morning, more than $51,000 had been raised.

After his release, Connolly tweeted: “Don't egg politicians. You get tackled by 30 bogans at the same time. I learnt the hard way.”

ABC News:

"Three years before the mass shooting in Christchurch, Brenton Tarrant was lavishing praise on prominent Australian far-right nationalist Blair Cottrell, referring to him as "Emperor".

Key points:
Among Mr Tarrant's posts was one joining UPF leaders in celebrating the election of Donald Trump
Mr Cottrell says he was made aware of someone with Mr Tarrant's name donating to UPF
New far-right group the Lads Society say they were visited by ASIO after the Christchurch attack

The ABC's Background Briefing has uncovered an archive of comments from the accused mosque shooter, which were posted on the now deleted Facebook pages of Australian far-right groups United Patriots Front (UPF) and True Blue Crew (TBC).

The comments give an insight for the first time into Tarrant's early radical views.

Tarrant, 28, is facing trial in New Zealand for his alleged involvement in the shooting deaths of 50 people at two mosques in Christchurch last week — part of which was live streamed on his Facebook page...

...What remained were fragments and digital impressions of a well-travelled young man who frequented hate-filled anonymous messaging boards and was deeply engaged in a global alt-right culture.

Although the shooter claimed in a manifesto uploaded before the attack that he was never a member of any group, the archive verified by Background Briefing reveals an allegiance to a number of high-profile Australian far-right figures.

And while specific details remain murky, these revelations about Tarrant's interactions with domestic far-right groups shed light on a young man captivated by white nationalism and its high-profile figurehead, Mr Cottrell.

Part of a movement
Mr Cottrell emerged as a public figure in 2015 for his opposition to a mosque in Victoria and a graphic stunt in which he performed a mock beheading.

Since then he has become the highest profile leader of Australia's alt right.

For many he is the symbol of the so-called "white resistance" in Australia and is the figurehead for a movement that in recent times has been defined by its virulent anti-Islamic views...

...On the night Donald Trump was elected in November 2016, our archived Facebook posts show Tarrant was closely following Mr Cottrell and his then fellow UPF leader Tom Sewell's commentary.

When it became clear Mr Trump would win, Mr Cottrell and Mr Sewell live streamed their celebrations from Melbourne's Federation Square...

...Tarrant was online celebrating with Mr Cottrell and Mr Sewell.

"Simply one of the most important events in modern history," Tarrant commented on the live video.

It was here that Tarrant was most effusive in his support of Mr Cottrell and the movement.

"Globalists and Marxists on suicide watch, patriots and nationalists triumphant — looking forward to Emperor Blair Cottrell coming soon," he wrote.

Tarrant made similar comments months earlier, when Mr Cottrell appeared on national TV."

Fraser->Erikson/Cottrel->Tarrant, there are the connections, for those of you having trouble seeing past eggboy ("Egg a Nazi? That kid has no discipline, that's assault!") or anyone claiming the Christchurch assault didn't have ideological roots.

You see now back in 1917, when the Brosnan brothers egged Prime Minister Hughes, and after Hughes failed to pull a revolver on them, the Australian police refused to arrest the eggers, telling the prime minister he had "no jurisdiction". The good old days; these days you egg a dangerous politician and get tackled by a bunch of neo-Nazis - is what Connolly should have tweeted. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Egg_Throw ... ent_(1917)

So now if we don't agree with something a politician says then we are able to "egg" them or maybe throw milk over them or pour urine or faeces on them with impunity and be celebrated for it.

i don't agree with Anning and his opinions or disgraceful statement but we cannot have people taking actions such as this kid.

No, as mentioned in an earlier comment Senator Fraser can press charges, but he will have to battle his own assault charges if he does, too - slapping the boy after being egged is not self-defense. My point is that getting focusing on a minor assault in this particular situation seems trivial compared to the kind of hate-breeding politics espoused by people like Fraser and Cotterel. The most important thing is stopping further Australians from becoming far-right terrorists. The question here is what do we focus on, Tarrant and the people who helped radicalise him and support his views, or a teenager who was angry that a fellow citizen had just committed a racist massacre and (shock horror) egged a politician supporting the "acceptance" of Australian terrorism?

Teenagers go egging all the time in Australia for much stupider reasons. Why not take your anger out on them?

I have no anger against him or his juvenile mates for egging but I do have an issue with people who get their 15 minutes of fame by completing a stunt like the egging and the media making a "hero" out of him. Is this an act you would be proud of your son doing?
I am old fashioned and believe that you have the right to say what you think but must be prepared that others may not believe in your opinion. I cannot condone the media for highlighting an act of stupidity/assault for simple public reaction.

As an Australian I'm much more interested in his support of Cotterel. Besides, Tarrant DID say he supported Trump as a symbol, but not as a leader... Who are the "they" that you speak of? The evil media painting stories? The world saw what Tarrant did and read his manifesto. There's no question about what "they" said in this case. These radicals are so outspoken with such a wide-reaching platform (Facebook, Google) that the media can't just cover it all up anymore.
