Seeking Australian Expats' Advice on Australia
Hello again, everyone.
So I am going to visit my "adopted" Cambodian daughters in their new home in Australia, but I have a few days on my own in the country as well (albeit not very many).
I'm seeking some customized suggestions for neighborhoods to visit in each of Melbourne, Sydney and Perth -- but with the proviso that tourist trails do absolutely nothing for me personally: My idea of an ideal day is to wake early, walk to a cozy business district in some lightly-traveled neighborhood, breakfast, attractive walk to another commercial area, lunch, walk to another one, coffee, and one more district in the evening for a festive dinner. So I'm looking for tidy, aesthetically pleasing neighborhoods, rather than photo opportunities to share with 70,000 of my closest friends and pickpockets.
If you've seen the movie *He Died With a Falafel In His Hand*, the Sydney neighborhood that Danny and Sam are walking through at the very end, when they get passed by the speeding police car, is the archetype: Tidy, gentrified, picturesque, but with no tourist draw like an Opera House or Harbour Bridge to get in the way.
Thanks everyone!

A few days ? It's going to take more than a few days just to cover the distance from Perth to Sydney
Cambodia,,,, Don't fall in love with her.

Looks fine to me, 3 full days in Melbourne, 2 full days in Junee, 3 full days in Sydney. Plenty for a short trip. But why the fuck anyone would want to go to Junee... did they move there? Why?Dangerous Dave wrote: ↑Mon Jul 30, 2018 3:37 pm Fly PNH --> MEL on 2-3 Aug

As for 'gentrified' street scenes... Balmain to Glebe to Newtown in Sydney. Brunswick to North Melbourne via North Carlton, through to South Melbourne for the typical Melbourne street scenes.

Hmmm Sydney is a big city mate!
Recommend that you head into Circular quay (right next to the opera house), easily accessible by public transport.
Hit the rocks (oldest part of Sydney just between the opera house & the bridge, Hehe) then hop on the ferry to get to the different districts if you want to cover it in a day; Manly, Watsons bay(not a business district but very nice) then back to the key. From the key you could walk up to Martin place then to Taylor square & onto Kings cross. The cross is nothing like it used to be but i think this is what you are asking for & it is easy to get back to where you are staying via public transport.

I'm surprised to be typing this, but for Perth head out to Fremantle for the day. No set destinations, there's a main walking street that will serve your needs, and then head to Cicerellos for fish and chips (or pretty much anything else) in the late afternoon. https://www.cicerellos.com.au/
Alternatively if you're north of the river, head to Sorrento Quay - Hillarys Boat Harbor.
Edit: If you've got a full day free in Perth, go to Rottnest Island. It's a short day trip, and well worth it. Ferries leave from several destinations throughout the day.

What about North Perth and Subiaco for a wander?
In Melbourne, you might like Brighton, Toorak, St.Kilda.

I honestly wouldn't be walking either suburb after dark these days. Nice during the day though. Walk from the city centre up to King's Park is also nice, and the Riverside walk past the bell tower is nice too.
