sad day for Hong Kong

Yeah, that place out 'there'. Anything not really Cambodia related should go here.

I forgot about this when I wrote my last post. - The UK were thinking about (and have now decided to) offer free citizenship to all HK residents, it seems on a no-questions-asked basis.

This is great news. The UK does have a responsibility to these people and it's good to see the government offering a helping hand. It's such a shame that it's come to this but at least they have a way out.

The US are gearing up.

China sanctions approved by US House as Pelosi calls Hong Kong security law 'horrific'

The US House of Representatives on Wednesday joined the Senate in approving a bill to rebuke China over its crackdown in Hong Kong by imposing sanctions on groups that undermine the city’s autonomy or restrict its freedoms.

The bill targets police units that have cracked down on Hong Kong protesters, as well as Chinese Communist party officials responsible for imposing a strict “national security” law on Hong Kong, which is considered a special administrative region within China and maintains its own governing and economic systems.

The measure also would impose sanctions on banks that do business with entities found to violate the law.

I cant wait for the day when Australia brings in sanctions against China . Importing wooden toothpicks from China should be the first on the list with a 100 % tariff on each toothpick.

I reckon there will be a lot of countries willing to offer sanctuary to Hong Kongers.

Canada already has a large population of them in Vancouver, America could take plenty, all of Europe could chip in and Australis and New Zealand too. It wouldn't take long to have a whip round of a million or so permanent residency visas offered and gut Hong Kong of their best and brightest.

The question is how quickly China would close the border and imprison them all. Would they have the balls to do it?

But perhaps China secretly wants all those protesters out of Hong Kong , this would make it easier to control those that remain, and at the same time letting a few of those that are sympathetic to China slip into other countries undetected.

I think that ship has sailed. Every Chinese company operating anywhere in the world is a set of eyes and ears for the CCP. They even went on a buying spree of medical equipment in Australia in January to March.

This comes after news.com.au revealed a Chinese property company in Australia shipped more than 80 tonnes of masks and essential supplies.

Risland Australia airfreighted the hundreds of thousand of items in mid-February.

Another property company, luxury real estate giant Greenland, also sent back to China bulk medical supplies to China, redeploying its Sydney staff fro their roles to go out on a medical shopping spree.

As China rose, the West was still sleeping – now it’s time we woke up

A short but interesting read.

The CCP recognises only two types of states; rivals to be defeated and clients to be exploited

“Let China sleep,” Napoleon Bonaparte pronounced, “for when she wakes she will shake the world.” For the past 30 years or so, this apocryphal sentiment formed the basis of conventional wisdom in the West. Yet it is now apparent it was not China that was sleeping, but the West.

Since being elected head of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) in 2013, Xi Jinping has put his country on a path of confrontation with the outside world. Today, even as the Chinese capital records more new Covid-19 cases than it admitted to at the first peak of the outbreak, Xi’s aggression is spreading and intensifying.

Hong Kong has come under the grip of Chinese ‘law’. Taiwan faces military threats and crude political subversion and increased military action on the Indian border seems designed to warn Delhi off building stronger ties with the US. Renewed incursions in the South and East China Seas undermine regional security, creating a flashpoint for armed conflict with the US. Canada faces hostage diplomacy, Australia is threatened and bombarded with cyber-attacks and Britain is told to allow Huawei into its 5G network or face unpleasant consequences.

And now the Chinese have a vaccine and are vaccinating their military.
They probably had the vaccine before they even released the virus.
That’s their thing. Create a problem and create a solution. Be the hero.
