Ryanair flight from Greece to Lithuania ordered to land in Minsk
All to get a blogger off the plane. This is going to put Belarus on the shitlist of the EU, the UK and the US.

That's fucking hilarious, if a little heavy handed
I am all for the enforced and permanent grounding of the entire Ryanair fleet - useless airline, seats too close together, a colour scheme that makes you want to blow the bastard plane up, charging through the nose for stuff that normal airlines give for free, anal rape if your luggage was overweight or larger than a standard satchel, indecipherable slavic noises from the flight crew and probably obese Olivia from Oldham's odoriferous bingo wings dangling over the armrest. Not again

Belarus KGB believed to be on plane forced to land in Minsk, says Ryanair CEO
Michael O’Leary made comments as EU, US and UK consider action against act of ‘air piracy’

Ryanair’s CEO has said he believes that agents of the Belarusian KGB were travelling on the plane that was diverted to Minsk on Sunday, as EU leaders prepared to meet to discuss what action to take against Belarus.
Belarusian police arrested opposition blogger Roman Protasevich and his girlfriend, Sofia Sapega, after forcing their Ryanair flight to land in the Belarusian capital, sparking outrage from European leaders, who have called the plane’s grounding a hijacking and act of “air piracy”.
In an interview on Newstalk Breakfast, Ryanair CEO, Michael O’Leary, said that “it appears the intent of the authorities was to remove a journalist and his travelling companion … we believe there were some KGB agents offloaded at the airport as well”.
O’Leary’s remarks were the first official confirmation of reports that four other passengers had disembarked in Minsk after the emergency landing, driving speculation that Protasevich was being shadowed by the security services before the plane was forced to land. O’Leary said he believed it was the first time such an incident had taken place with a European airline.
On Monday, it was revealed that Sapega, a Russian citizen studying at the European Humanities University (EHU) in Lithuania, was forced off the flight along with Protasevich, whom Belarusian authorities have accused of fomenting the mass protests last year against the president, Alexander Lukashenko.

Re: Ryanair flight from Greece to Lithuania ordered to land in Minsk
The UK and the EU have now banned all their airlines from using Belarus airspace and banned Belarus airlines from using EU airspace. In practice this is one airline, Belavia. What they need to do is ban all flights going to or leaving Belarus from all EU airspace. If Ukraine plays ball and join in the ban, that would really hem them in, but I doubt they will do anything to antagonise Moscow at the moment.
There will be sanctions to follow and I heard someone on the radio this morning talking about cutting off Belarus from the SWIFT banking system, which is bad news for them.
Is President Alexander Lukashenko beginning to wonder if this blogger is worth all the trouble?

Don"t Eat The Yellow Snow.
Re: Ryanair flight from Greece to Lithuania ordered to land in Minsk
Yeah, a flight being forced to re-direct and land elsewhere where a journalist was kidnapped and is likely to be tortured & executed... side splitting stuff.

The US will invade Antarctica in response..an all shemale unit.
Re: Ryanair flight from Greece to Lithuania ordered to land in Minsk
If I knew a tyrannical government wanted to torture & execute me, I'd probably give their country a good 500 mile buffer zone, not fly over the damn thing; what was he thinking?
That aside, the West is more and more getting into sanctions & thoughts and prayers. The days of a good guy with a gun going to protect the little guys have truly gone; Uighur issue, Myanmar issue, etc. these folks are all on their own.

Belarus will continue to insist that they received a credible bomb threat (from HAMAS, lol) and the pilot diverted there himself after notification of said threat - we can see all the individual luggage bags laid out on the airport tarmac after searching post landing for suspicious devices
