Russian Party Sihanoukville
Russian Party Sihanoukville
I had heard a rumor about a 1000 person party on Ko Pous island Sihanoukville. (This is the one the Russian's built a bridge to then went bankrupt.) I asked a Russian neighbor about it and he directed me to the web site for KAZANTIP. (my neighbor said there will be about 3000 people.)
Looks like a big no holds barred, no police, Russian music/drug in. What we had in America in the '60s and early '70s. We called them Rock Festivals.
This week there has been helicopters flying over the island everyday so something is happening.

Re: Russian Party Sihanoukville
can anyone attend or do you need an invitation?
Re: Russian Party Sihanoukville
So it's like a Russian or Ukrainian version of Burning Man combined with a rave? I can't think of an event I'd less like to attend than this one, by the sound of it. Sounds like Ko Pous is a good place for it.

Haha, maybe the authorities could blow up the bridge once everyone is partying. Then we'd just have to wait 40 days or so...

Re: Russian Party Sihanoukville
I just talked to my Russian neighbor (one of the 1% of Russians who act like human beings and seems to work somewhere), and I got the numbers wrong. He said that they have already presold 3,000 tickets and expect 10,000 people.
Looks like the usual Russian planning (None). Sihanoukville has no real hospital, no police to speak of, no emergency services, no real doctors, little/no trash collection and limited access. (four hours to closest real hospital) The island has no buildings, no toilets, one way in/out, no roads, no electricity (that I know of), and limited road access on the mainland.
It also looks like 22 hours a day of recorded music which is fine if your stoned out of your mind. No live music. (In April I'm traveling to the Byron Bay Blues Fest in OZ where there is live music and organization.)
This should be a very entertaining 10 days. The local temples better stock up on wood for Cambo style Bar-B-Qs as there should be a few drug overdoses, drowning, drunken fights, etc. (they also didn't nickname it Snake Island for nothing, but as luck has it the Russians have the corner on the snake bite antidote.)
As the island has been closed off for years I might just buy a one day ticket to explore the island and walk across the "Bridge To Nowhere."

Jésus... So this is some big rave being announced in Russia I guess? If it works out, expect to see it happen every year until the authorities get tired of it. Smart to put it on a "private" island.
