Yeah, that place out 'there'. Anything not really Cambodia related should go here.

Rescuers bid to free survivors

Rescuers bid to free survivors after deadly Taiwan earthquake

Rescue crews are trying to free two people from a hotel after the ground floor caved in following a strong earthquake near Taiwan’s east coast which killed at least four people.
The shallow, magnitude 6.4 quake that struck late on Tuesday night caused at least four buildings in worst-hit Hualien county to cave in and tilt dangerously.
Four people were killed and 225 others were injured, while more than 140 were unaccounted for, Taiwan’s official Central News Agency reported.

Horrible. It struck in the middle of the night as well which would have added to the confusion and missing people.

That picture of the hotel on its side is amazing. Can’t believe it’s still “standing” to be honest.

I know right. It’s amazing how little damage the building has as a whole, apart from the whole slipping off its foundations thing.

In theory it should have been built on a raft, not strip foundations so the whole thing proabaly tilted more or less intact. Dangerous bit is fractures gas, electric and water

A guy on the news said the first five floors are underground now, implying it has subsided (as well as collapsed?). The stresses on the structure must be immense so it's obviously built like a brick shithouse.

I spoke with a Taiwanese friend of mine, he told me that two years ago, on the exact same date, they had an earthquake there with the exact same magnitude too...

Just saw a front view on the news. They have propped the front up, with what looks like pieces of wood, that would explain why it hasn’t toppled over yet.
