I pulled a woman out of a car wreck this morning.

Yeah, that place out 'there'. Anything not really Cambodia related should go here.

We've been trying to work it out most of the day and come to the conclusion the cause might be a combination of speed and lack of concentration/focus. She didn't appear to be under the influence of anything, but one isn't trying to determine such things at the time of extraction and care.

My best guess, and my guesses often stink, she was speeding while on her phone texting or similarly not paying attention.
Ok, I am goin got get flamed for saying this but i am sick of Khmer murdering inccocent people by driving dangeroulsy or drunk, and they do not learn from the experience. When questioned they will tell you its "up to Buddha" if they have an accident or not. In this case i would probably have given her the benefit of the doubt, but if she was drunk i would have left her for buddha to take care of, same as she would have done for anyone she hit

You are going to get flamed for jumping to conclusions. She wasn't Khmer and it's extremely unlikely she was Buddhist.

If I were to hazard another guess I'd say she was of Thai decent.

Guess if the car was potentially going to burn you have to do it, however, I think the proper thing to do otherwise is to leave them be until the ambulance arrives.

Not to say I have much confidence in an ambulance company here being properly trained in that situation either.

Socialist Australia does not have ambulance companies GMJS.
They have a superbly trained, excellently equiped corp of paramedics directly employed by the state.

Like the health care system generally, not free, but available to all regardless of their financial situation.

Excellent job KFH. I've been in that situation before and you must do what you feel is needed at the time.

I get what you are saying. We all deal (the ones here anyhow) with the local's lack of education. Remember, it was not all that long ago that the educated ones were killed along with their genes. It's going to take generations for them to get caught up education-wise, and a positive replacement of HE to get this country on track.
Still here, in country...

KFH - you did the right thing.

If you waited and then car burned and exploded, then you’d be second guessing yourself forever.

Bravo!
